MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEET-
ING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON, HELD TUESDAY, JUNE 23,
1936, AT 3:30 O'CLOCK P. M., AT-THE
CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305

The'meeting was called to order by the MaY'or,
J. J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin
Councilmen absent: LeV'f, Peralta
It was moved bY' Leonis, seconded bY' Durbin, th8.t
the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dis-
pensed with. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced that he bad
on his desk bids for the furnishing of land for well and
reservoir sites.
It was moved by Leonie, seoonded bY' Durbin, that
the Clerk proceed to open the bids. Motion carried.
Bids from the fol~owing persons were read:

It was moved byDUrb111., seconded bY'Leonis, that
all bids be taken under advisement until the next regular
meeting. Motion carried.
At this t1rl1e the consulting engineer Bowen filed
a report and survey of the water rates within the city.
It was m6vedbY'Leonis, seconded bY' DUrbin, that
the report o~ the consulting engineer be filed and referred
to the Water and Power Committee. Motion carried.
Co1lmn1nlcatioll from pennzoilC~any, . requesting
permission to decorate the street inHfront of their place
for the purpose of celebrating the opening of thei%' new
plant, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by 'Durbin, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion
carried.
At this time the City Council received a letter
from the Bureau of Power & Light of the city of Los Angeles,
with reference to buying the city's old power department's
truck.
It was moved by Leon1s , sec6ndedby DUrbin, that
the same be referred to Wayne N. Job:rison, electrical engineer,
for investigation and report. Motion carried.

ORDINANCE NO.493# an ordinance fixlngtherates
to be charged for electric energy distributed and supplied
by the City was read fo1' first reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that
Ordinance No. 493 be passed fo1' fi1'st reading. Motion
carried.
mO!mnunication fl'om Mr. Boyle, of Boyle Manufacturing
Company, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the same be referred to the Mayor of the city. Motion car-
ried.
RESOLUTION NO. 793, a 1'esolution increasing the
salaries of W. H. De Sellemand S. R. Brown, was l' ead.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by DUrbin, that
Resolution No. 794 be adopted. Motion carried.
Statement of Los Angeles Gas & Electric Corpora-
tion, on Franchise Ordinance No. 361, enclosing check in
the swn of $1.43, was read.
It was moved by Leonis# seconded by Durbin, that
the statement be filed and the check accepted. Motion
ca1'ried.
Communications fromCaliforiiie.-Oregon Paper Mills
and York Ice Machine Company, for perniits to ha.ul refuse from
their premises upon and along the streets of the city of
Vernon, we1'e read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
the communications be filed and per.mits granted. Motion
carried.
The follOWing applications, all having the approval
of the City Engineer, were read:

struct canopy over grea.se rack at District Blvd. and Produce
Plaza. Approximate cost $300.00.
A:pplieatlon 4870:.. of Sperr>y Flour Company, ~ for permi t to
erect two meal tanks at 4309 Fruitland Road. Approximate
cost $3500.00.
Application 4871: of Washington Eljer Company, for permit
to construct mezzanine 'floor at 2031 East Vernon Avenue.
Approximate cost $3250.00.
Application 4872: of Southern California Gas60mpany, for
permit to 1ns'tall gas Service at 2641 Santa Fe Avenue.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonie, that
the applications be filed and permits granted. Motion
carried.
