Councilmen present: Councilmen absent: FUrlong, Leoma, Durbin, Levy, Peralta None It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the reading or the Minutes of' the previous meeting be dis- pensed with. Motion carried. It was moved by Durbin,. seconded by Leonis, that the matter of the two power poles be r eterred to the chief electrical engineer, 'and the matter or the easement be taken under advisement. ' dangerous condition and that an- absolute emergency existed, and that said well should be repaired and put into service at once. At this time Councilman Durbin introduced RESOLUTION NO. 798 aresolutiondeclaringHanddeterminingtbat the public interest and'necesslty demanded the immediate expenditure of public money, and moved its adoption, which was seconded by Councilman Levy,and carried by the following vote: Ayes: B088 : Absent: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Levy, Peralta None None CommuniCation from Cold Liquid Metal Applicators, Inc., ror permit to conduct business at 3710 South Alameda Street, was read. It was move4,-by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Motion carried. Communication from E. B. Kisbey, for permit to con- duct and. operate a used pipe and machinery business at 4443 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. Towles, 1750 Downey Road.. regarding alleged nuisance commi tted by Filtrol Company.. was read. It was moved by Durbin.. seconded by Peralta.. that the same be referred to the next regul~ meeting. Paving Company and Waynway Rubber Company, f'or permits to haul rubbish from t heir premises upon and along the public streets of' the city of Vernon, were read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the connnunications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. The following applications were laid over'to the next regUlar meeting: Applications Nos. 4874, 4875, 4876, 4877 and 4878. The i'ollowing applications, having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: Application 4880: of Marko Ma.tick, f'or permit to construct drIveway at ~817 Santa Fe Avenue. Applicatlo1'l48$1: of Vernon PavingCCompany, f'or permit to extend drIveway at 3200 Ea~t Vernon Avenue. Appllcatio:ri4882: of Miller & Miller, f'or permit to construct two drIveways at ~25 Santa Fe Avenue. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the applications be f'iled and permits granted. Motion carried. Communication from Percival Steel & Suppl~ Company, requesting per.mission to paint curb in f'ront of 4600 Santa Fe AvellUe, was 1'ead. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the matter be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. At this time the Chairman of the Water & Power Com- mittee submitted the i'ollowing propositions approved by the Chief Electrical Engineer: 1. A reduction in the personnel 01' the electrical trouble department, by eliminating the position of trouble helper on t~e morning and day shifts. . 2. Eliminating the posltionof storekeeper now held by Mr. E. O. McMahanandconsolldating the storekeeper's work with that of the general clerk, now being done by }fIr. Jones, and that Er. Jones be appointed to both positions at a salary of $170.00 per month - -2- ()f')C' ~:.._, ) and moved that hisrecommendatiolls be adopted, which was seconded by Councilman Durbin, and carried. .At this time the Chairman of the Water &: Power Committee introduced RESOLUTION No~ '799, a resolution changing the salary of' 'fl.. V. Harris and G. Lewis, of the Electrical Department, md'.moved its adoption, which was seconded by Councilman Durbin, and carried.
