MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEET-
ING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON ~ HELD TUESDAY ~ JULY 14, 1936,

The 'meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
J. J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Fu.rlong, Leonis~ Durbin
Councilmen absent~ Levy, Peralta
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis~ that
the reading'of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dis-
pensed with. Motion carried.
It was recommended by H. A. Thal~er, city en-
gineer, that the bid of E. G. Hilton, Dodge dealer, for
trucks be accepted.
It was mo'Vedby Durbin,. aeconded by Leonia,
that the re c.ommendati on of the city engineer be concurred
in and that .E. G. Hilton, Dodge dealer, be awarded the
contract for the furnishing of the trucks to the City ,and
that the City Clerk be instructed to return checks to all
unsuccessful bidders. Motion carried.
Recommendation of H. 1. Thalimer,cityengiri.eer,
on salary adjustments in the street de~artment~ was read.
It was moved by DUrbiii, seconded by Leonis~ that
the recommendation be laid over. Motion carried.
Recommendation ofR. A. Thal1mer, city engineer,
that E..O. McMahon be employed.in the Engineering Depart-
mentL Water Department and Street Department, at a salary
of $~25.00 per month, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leani., that
the recommendation be laid over. Motion carried.
Report of the General Petroletil11 C01'poration on Los
Angeles County Franchise No. 781 N.S., was read.
It was moved by Leonis ~ seoonded by Durbin, that
the report be filed. Motion carried.
COmmunication tromVernon Industrial Development
Assoclation~advising that Mr. F.E. Burger had been appointed
by the Association to cooperate with" the Water & Power Com-
mitteeof the City Council, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, t hat the
same be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from W. T.Davis, Sacramento, Calif.,
advising that he is equipped to handle all classes of water
and sewer installations, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the communication be filed. Motion carried.

Communication from J. R. Molony Company, requesting'
statement of bank deposits and bonds deposited to secure same,
as of June 30, 1936, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the
communication be referred to the Auditor, Motion carried.
Communication from South Gate" Chamber of Commerce,
advising of a dinner to be held Tuesday, July 28, 1936, and
requesting that a representative of the city attend, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the communication be filed. Motion carried.
Communication. from Mrs. Cora M. Smith, requesting
permiSSion to paint curb between two driveways at 2038 East
Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonie, that the
matter be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Rich Manufacturing Company, re-
questing permission to paint curb at 3851 Santa Fe Avenue for
customers parking, was read.
It was moved by Dui"bin, seconded by Leonis, that
the matter be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 801, approving Specifications No. 94
for the sinking of a drilled water well, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
Resolution No. 801 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESO~UTION NO. 802, declaring the prevailing rate per
diem wages for labor to be used in the sinking of drilled water
well, as described in Specifications No. 94, was read.

It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
Resolution No. 802 be adopted. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis, . seconded by Durbin, that
the Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for the"
drilling of water well specified in Sppcifications No. 94,
said bids to be returnable at an adjourned regular meeting
to be held July 28, 1936. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department on application of
H. M.Andrews and CharlesC. Olsen, for permit to operate a
restaurant at 2100 East Vernon Avenue, was read. Police
Department recommended that application be granted.
It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Durbin, that
the recommendation of the Police Department be concurred in.
Motion carried.
Communications from the following firms. for per-
mission to haul refuse from their premises upon and along
the public streets of the city of Vernon, were rea4:
Luer Packing Company
Bohemian Distributing Company
It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Du.rbin, that" the
applications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.

RESOLUTION NO. 803, acce1>ting deed from Leonis In-
vestment Company for portion of Lot 7 of the 500 Acre
Tract of Los Angeles Fruit Land Association, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, secoridedby Leonis, that
Resolution No. 803 be adopted. Motion carried.
At this time the Chairman of the Water & Power
Committee reported that the Chief Electrical Engineer had
negotiated with the City of Los An.geles to rent the City's
truck not now in use for $250..00 a month, and requested the
City Council to approve same..
It 'Was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that
the City Council approve the action of the Committee. Mo-
tion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 494, relating to the care and ex-
penditure of money received by the Water Department of the
City of Vernon, was read for first reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
Ordinance No. 494 be passed for first reading.. Motion
carried..
Application 4890: o~ Thomas H. Hogan, for permit to con-
nect to sewer at 3825 Santa Fe'Avenue, having the approval
of the City Engineer, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, secorided by Durbin, that
the application be filed and per.mit granted. Motion carried..
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that
