19360818 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD TUESDAY, AUGUST 18, 1936, AT THREE O'CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL, OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. ~ - ~ - - ~ ~ - - ~ - ~ - ~ - - - The e meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. FUrlong. Councilmen present: FUrlong, Durbin, Levy, Peralta Councilmen absent: Leonis It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk announced that he bad one bid upon his desk for the furnishing ot lubricating oil centrifuge. It was moved by LevY, seconded by Durbin, that the Clerk proceed to open the bid. Motion carried. The Clerk opened and read bid from the Sharples Specialty Company. e It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the bid be referred to the Plant Engineer for checking and re- port. Motion carried. Comnnmication trom H. A. Thalimer, City Engineer, requesting the City Council'to callror bids for'Venturi meter,well pump wi tb. motor, booster pump and 42,500 bbl.. steel storage tank ror Well No.4, now under construction, was read. It was moved by Durb1ll, seconded by Levy, that the City Clerk advertise ror bids as per request of City Engineer, when specifications for same are drawn. Motion carried. Comnmnication from the City Enginaer, with estimates for street improvement and street maintenance proposed to be financed by County aid from State gasoline tax money, in the sum of $5500.00, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the same be laid over until the next meeting. Motion carried. Communication fram United States Senator W. G. McAdoo, in reference to the post office site in the City ot Vernon, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be tiled. Motion carried. Co.mmnnicationtrom Wagner Sales and Service, Inc., for permit to conduct an oil field equipment business, at 2371 East 51st Street, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that all laborers in the power plant be paid a salary of $4.00 per day, efrective August 1, 1936. Motion carried. <) C. ,....., <\.,.,...) If ORDINANCE NO. 49'1,. approving the budget for the fiscal year 1936-3'7 was read by title for first readins. Upon the reading ofthetit,le, it was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy, that fUrther reading 0 f Ordinance No. 49'7 be waived. Motion carried. It wa$ movedby' Durbin, seconded by.Levy, that ORDINANCE NO. 49'7 be passed for first reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 498 fixing the rate of taxes and levying the taxes for the fIscal year beginning July 1, 1936, was read by title for first reading. Upon the read- ing of the title, it was moved by Peralta,.seconded by Levy, that :f'u.rther reading of Ordinance No. 498 be waived. Motion carried. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy that ORDINANCE NO. 498 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
