MINUTES OF A REGUBAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER l, 1936, AT
THREE O'CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY
HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305
SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor,
J. J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin,
LeVy, Peralta
Councilmen absent: None
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the reading of'the Minutes of the previous meeting be
dispensed with. Motion carried.
The City Clerk announced at this time that he
had on his desk bids, pursuant to notice advertising for
same, for the furnishing of one Venturi Tube Meter.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the Clerk open the bids. Motion carried.
The Clerk then opened and read bids from the
following persons: R. W. Lawton and Charles P. Crowley.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that
the bid.s be referred to the City Engineer for checking and
report. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer, with state-
mwnt showing budget proposal for estimated expenditures in ,
connection with the widening and improvement of Vernon .
Avenue between Santa Fe Avenue and Alameda Street, was read.
,. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that
the recommendation of the City Engineer be approved. Motion
carried.
Communication from PicoOiI Company, requesting
permission to construct retort for the distilling of crude
petroleum on property of old Hercules Gasoline Company on
East 30th Street, was read. Attached thereto was report
of B. H. Isaacs, Foamite Inspector, recommending that the
application be denied.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the c.eJIIIIIoU11.cation be filed and the recommendation of the
Foamite Inspector be concurred in. Motion carried.
Communication from Otto J. Werner, for permit
to operate service station at 4895 Pacific Boulevard, was
read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from Rich Manufacturing Co., for
permit to haul refuse in and out of gate located at 3851
Santa Fe Avenue, was read.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion
carried..
Report of the Police Department was read..
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Pera~ta, that
the same be filed.. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 820, authorizing all moneys re-
ceived for gas tax for the biennium 1935-37 to be deposited
in the Special Gas Tax Street Improvement Fund, to be used
for the improvement of Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
RESOLUTION NO. 820 be approved. Motion carried..
Minutes of the meetings of the Water &: Power
Co~ttee of August 25 and September l, 1936, were read..
It was moved'by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,
that the same be filed. Motion carried..

construct ractory building at 3601 Santa Fe Avenue..

Application 4944: of Rich Manufacturing Co., for permit to
construct time office at 3851 Santa Fe Avenue. Approximate
cost $150.00.
Application 4945: of Southern Glass Co.., for permit to'
remoae~ bUilding at 2501 East 26th Street for warehouse.
Approximate cost $125.00.
Application 4946: of Sout hern Glass Co., for permit to
remodel building at 2501 East 26th street for warehouse
purposes.. Approximate cost $3500.00..
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,
that the applications be f~led and permits granted.. Motion
carried.
The following application, having the approval
of the City Engineer, was read.
ApI?lication4940:of Lane Wells Company, for permit to
construct sidewalk and driveway on Soto Street, 193 feet
north of south boundary line.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta,
that the application be filed and permit granted. Motion
carried.
Demands on the General Fund in the Sll1'll of $16,l96.54,
wel'eread.

the demands be allowed and warrants drawn for the same.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that
this meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
