MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CI'l'Y COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1936, AT
THREE 0' CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL
OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE
AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA.

Councilinen present: Leonis, Durbin, Levy
Counciline.n absent: Furlong, Peralta
In the absence or the Chainnan," the meeting was called
to order by the City Clerk, T. J. Furlong, who declared nomina-
tions were in order f'or Chairman pro tam of' the meeting.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that
Councilman L~onis act as Chairman pro tem. Motion ca,:ried.
Mr. Leonis then called the meeting to order.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
reading of' the Minutes of' the previous meeting be dispensed
with. Motion carried.
Communication f'rom the of'f'ice of' the City Engineer
of' Los Angeles regarding disposal" of' sewage in East 51st Street,
was read. It was moved by Durbin, secomed by LeVy ,that the
City Clerk inf'or.rn the. City Emgineer of' Los Angeles that the
City of' Vernon has had no knowledge of' this connection, but
will look into the matt~r and report. Motion carried.
Communication f'rom Sinnnons Brick Company, regarding
construction and use of' Groutlock brick masonry, was read.
It was moved by Levy, secomedby Durbin, that the
communication be laid over until a meeting of' the full Council.
Moti on carried.
CommUIlication f'romH. A. Thalimer, City Engineer,
recommending that work of' the Barber and Bridge Drilling Company
be accepted as of' October 10, 1936, was read.
It was moved by DUrbin, seconded by Levy, that the
work of' Barber and Bridge Drilling Company be accepted as of'
this date. Motion carried.
Communication from Ajax Oil & Refining Company, re-
garding certain agreement f'or delivery of' fuel oil to the
power house, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
same be ref'erred to the full Council. Motion carried.
Communication f'rom A' Brass Foundry, 2052 East Vernon
Avenue, regarding condition of East Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by DUrbin, seconded by Levy, that the
same be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from W. T. Davis General Steel Con-
struction Company, regardiriginstallation and maintenance of
water and sewer system, was read.

It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the same be filed. Moti on carried.
Conmnin1cation from CaliforniaTailk and Boiler Works,
for permit to buy, sell, make, repair arid rebuild tanks and
boilers at 2149 East 37th street, was read.
It was m.oved by Levy ~ seconded by Durbin, that the
same be taken under advisement. Motion carried.
"Communications rrom L. A. Pacific Macaroni Co. and
Jobns...Manville . Co., for permi tsto haul refuse from their
premses upon and along the public streets of the city of Vernon,
were read.
It was moved bY-Durbin, secomed by Levy, that the'
communications be filed and pe:rmits granted. Motion carried.
Communication frOm John Muir Technical High School,
Pasadena, California, reqUesting permission to take a class
through the power plant, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the
communication be referred to the Electrical Engineer. Motion
carried.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin, that all
bids for the furnishing and erection of' a water tank for the
City of Vemon be rejected. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 825, approving'Specifications No. 97
for the furnishing and erection of a 25,000 barrel steel tank
and appurtenances, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
RESOLUTION NO. 825 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 826, declaring the prevailing rate
per diem wagesf'orlabortc5be used in the furnishing. and
erection of tank and appurtenances, under Speclfications No.
97, was read.
It was moved byu Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
RESOLUTION NO., 826 be adopted. Motion carried.
It "was moved by Durbin, . seconded by LeVY, that
the Clerk advertIse for bids ,for the fUrnishing of water
tank as described in Specifications No. 97'. Motion carried.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy , that
the Clerk advertise for bids for the furnishing of 11,000
gallon water pump, motor and auxiliaries. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 827, fix1ngsalary of T. 'M. McComb,
Chief Eng:tneer of the City's power plant, at $400.00 a month,
was read.
. . ..It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the salary of T. M. McComb, Chief Engineer of the City's
power plant, be fixed-at $400.00 a month from and after the
first day of November, 1936, and that said RESOLUTION NO.
827 be adopted. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that
the report be filed. Motion carried.

Minutes of the meetings of the Water and Power
Committee of October 27th and Novamber 4th, 1936, were
read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconied by Levy, that
the Minutes of October 27th and November 4th, 1936, of
the Water and Power Connni ttee, be f'iled. Motion carried.
