Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Levy Councilmen absent: Peralta It was moved by Durbin, seconded by LeVY, ,that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. Furlong. Petition submitted by Southern Pacific Company for spur track across the easterly roadway of Alameda Street south of Vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the petition be filed. Motion carried. CO\Uloilman Durbin then introduced ORDINANCE NO. 500, granting a franchise to Southern Pacific Railway Co~, a cor- poration, which was read by title for first reading. It was moved by Durbin, second.edby Levy, t'hat ORDINANCE NO. 500 be passed for first reading. Motion carried. Communication from Los Angeles Railway Company,. together with assignment of Franchise No. 91 from the City Railway Company to Los Angeles Railway Company, as of November 7, 1936, was read. It was moved by DUl"bin, secomed by Levy , that the com- munication be filed and the assignment, approved. Motion carried. Report of the Rail:road Commission in the matter of the application of Los Angeles Railway Company for approval of use of HB life guards on certain street cars was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconied by Levy, that the same be filed. Motion carried. C ommunication from York Ice Machinery. Corp., com- plaining of aluminum spray paint being us ed by nearby industries am damaging the finish of automobiles parked nearby, was read. It was moved by Leonis, secor.ded by Levy, that the communication be referred to the City Attorney. Communication from Davey Tree Surgery Co., reqUest- ing permit to trim trees interfering with Southern California a07 Edison wires)"' also request for a permit to bB.ul trimmings through the city and disp ose of them, was read. It was movedbj Durbin,secorxled by Levy ,t hat the communication be received and filed and the writer in~ structed to speoify the streeteor alleys along which they desire to trim trees. It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and the appointment approved. Motion carried. At this. time Councilman Levy introduced RESOLUTION NO. 840, a resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon authorizing the publication of notice to sella franchise for ~..:t>eI"iod of fifty years for the purposes set forth in the Resolution, which was seconded by Councilman D.Urb;1J1l. and carried. It was moved bY' Durbin, seconded by Levy ,t bB.t the City Attorney be instructed to write the District Attorney of Los Angeles County, informing him that the city was satis- fied to allow the prosecution of misdemeanors to continue in the future as it has in the past. Motion carried. Petition of Howard McCurdy and others was read. It was moved by Dul'bin,seconded by LeVy, that the same be referred to the Legal Department. Motion carried. 14inutes of. the Water and Power Committee meetings of February 9th and 16th, 1937, were read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by ~vy, tbat the same be filed. Motion carried.
