M., AT THE CITY, HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. -- ~- -~ -- -- ._- -- -~ -- -~ -- The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Furlong. Councilmen present: Councilmen absent: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin Levy, Peralta It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. Communica.tion, with resolution attached from Los Angeles County ]3oard of Supervisors ,I' egarding flood condi- tions in the area between Alameda Street and Los Angeles River, extendi1l.g southerly from Vemon to Dominquez Junction, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Fra.neis Bates, Acting City Engineer, reco:umending the acceptance of Venturi meter for pumping station 'No.2, .was read. It was moved by' Leonis ,secomed by Durbin., that . the commun.ication be filed and recommendation concurred in. Motion carried. Communicatiorifrom the Actlng City Engineer, re- questing the authorization to make application in the name of the city for corporate membership' in' American Water Works Association, at an,annual fee of $15.00, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonie, that the comrimnication be filed and authorization given. Motion carrie d. " Report of the Southern California Gas Company on ' Franchise No. S9, with check in the sum of $652.lS attached, was read. It was moved by DUrbin, secomed by Leonis, that the same be referred to the Finance Cammittee. Motion carried. Report of General Petroleum Corp., on Franchise Ordinances Nos.-SO, 152 aDd 299, with check in the sum of $4S.21 attached, was read. It was moved by DUrbin, seconded'by Leonis ~ that the report be received and filed and the check 'accepted. Motion carried. . Communication l' ram Bethlehem Steel Company, regard- ing the laying of water mains in Magnolia Avenue, was read. It, was, moved by DUrbin,' seconded by Leonie, that the City Engineer be instructed to allow the Bethlehem Steel Company to borrow from the city pipe to complete said work, 309 with ,the distinct understanding, however, that said pipe should be returned in k1lld to the City, and that the City should be u.nder rio firiailcial obligation either in removing or in replacing said pipe. It wa.s moved by Leonis, seconded by Du.rbin" that the same be referred to the City Clerk, with instructions as set forth.t the last regular meeting of the City Council. Motion carried. Wire Corp., requesting pennit to haul refuse from premises at 3200 East Slauson J.ve11ue, upon and along the public streets of the City of Vernon, was read. It qs moved by Leo riis , secorned by Durbin, that the communication be filed and pe~it granted. Motion carried. The following applications, having the approval ot the Actins City Engineer, were read:, Al?plication.51'14: ,of Whiting Mead Co., to eonstzwuct asphaltic concrete driveway and rebuild curb on East 38th Street, 405-1/2 feet west of Iriving Street. Application 51'15: of Buttress & McClellan, for permit to connect to sewer at 2336 East 38th street. It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Dtl.rbin, that'the applications be filed and pe~it,granted. Motion carried. C01'm:nU1l1catlon from A.' W.Hudson, reqUesting withdrawal' ot a certain petition signed by him and presented by H. McCUrdy, was read. It was moved by Dtri'biiJ., seconded by Leonis, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Communication f:rolD Los Angeles FoUndry-Company, 2444 S6uthAlameda Street,l"'equesting release On portion of building set-back line on Alameda Street, was read. It was moved by Leonis, secorned byI>\11tbln, that the matter be reterred to the City Engineer. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 841, a resolution authoriziilg the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into a certain contract attached to said Resolution, was read. It was moved by DUrbin, seconded bY Leonis, that RESOLUTION NO. 841 be adopted. Motion carried. , It was moved by Durbin, secon4edby Leonls, that- W. H. Wadsworth be employed by the Ci tyto prepare the pro- ceedin.gs .in. the bond election to be voted'upoJ?, by the residents of the City of Vernon, in the sum of $600,000, and that he be allowed'reasonable compensation for his services.
