J. Furlong. . Councilmen present: Councilmen absent: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Peralta Levy It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. Communication from Acting City Engineer, request- ing the City Council to draw an ordinance "regarding excavations in public streets, alleys, etc., was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that the same be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried. Communication from the Acting City Engineer, regard~ ing Downey Road storm drain, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that"the same be referred to the Finance Committee. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 501, an ordinance calling a special election to be held April 12, 1937, was read for first reading. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by' Durbin that ORDINANCE NO. 501 be passed for first reading. Motion carried. At this time the City Attqrney presented a form of ordinance to be known as Ordinance No. 502, to be voted upon by the )eople of Vernon. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that ORDINANCE NO. 502 be approved as to Torm, to be voted upon April 12, 1937, by the people of the City of Vernon. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 847, a resolution calling a special election in the City of Vernon, to be held April 12, 1937, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that RESOLUTION NO. 847 be adopted. Motion carried. . Co~catlon from the Acting City Engineer, with P~ans No. 501 attached, for the improvement of Magnolia Street, and requesting the City Council to approve said plan, was read. RESOLUTION NO. 848, a resolution adopting Plan No. 501 was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that RESO~UTION NO. 848 be adopted. Motion carried. \ ) Communication from the Acting City Engineer! re~ quest ing permission to spend an amount not to exceed t350.00 to improve the condition of Water Well No.1 of the City, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the City Engineer be instructed to do the work necessary on Well No. lof the City, at a cost not to exceed $350.00. Mo- tion carried. Communication from the Acting City Engineer, stating that an additional $2500.00 will be necessary to complete the Vernon Avem.le Storm Drain, was read. RESOLUTION NO. (349, a resolution transferring $2500.00 from the General Fund into the Vernon Avenue Storm Drain Fund was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that RESOLUTION NO. 849 be adopted. Motion carried. Communication from the Acting City Engineer, regard- ing the drainage on East 28th Street, was read. It was moved by Durbin, . seconded by Peralta, that the same be filed and the Clerk instructed to communicate its con- tents to the Associated Oil Company. Motion carried. Circular letter from the League of Ca.liforniaMunic- ipalities" regarding interest rates on public deposits after August 24, 1937, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Report of " General PetroleUm Corporation on Los Angeles County Franchise No. 781 (NS) was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Davey Tree Surgery Co. Ltd., request- ingpermit to trffutrees to clear Southern California Edison Com- pany;Ltd. wires at Downey Road north of Slauson Avenue; Boyle Avenue north of Slauson Avenue; and 37th Street east of Alameda Street, the number of trees to be tr~ed being set forth in the communication, was read.
