MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF TEE
CITY COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD TUESDAY, APRIL 6, 1937, AT THREE
O.CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE
AVE:NUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Councilmen present: FUrlong, Leonis, Durbin, Peralta
Councilmen absent: Levy
It was moved by DUrbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the reading ottheMinutes of the pr$vious meeting be dispensed
with. Motion carried.
Communication trom Francis Bates, Acting City
Engineer,stibm1tting Speoifications No. 103 for the painting of
25,000 barrel steel tank on East Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved-By Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the
communication be filed. Motion carried.
At this tirneCoUnoilman Durbin introduced Resolution
No. 851, a resolutioh approving Specifications No~ 103, and
moved its adoption, which was seoonded by Peralta, and carried.
Communication from Francis Bates, Aeting City
Engineer, requesting'authorization to employ clerk at a salary
of $100.00 per month, to keep records incoimection with the
Downey Road Storm Drain, W. P. A., was read.
It was moved by Leonia, seconded by Durbin, that
the communication be filed and the Acting City Engineer in- -
structed to employ a clerk at a salary of not to exceed $100;00
until the further order of the City Council. Motion carried.
Communication from Francis Bates, Acting City -
Engineer, requ6st1ngan additional appropriation of $650.00 to
complete the cleaning of Well No.1, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that
the same be filed. Motion carried.
Councilman Durbin ii1troducedResolution No. 852, a
Resolution appropriating $650.00 to complete the cleaning of
Well No.1, and moved its adoption, which was seoonded by
Councilman Leonis, and carried.
Communication, with resolution attached, from the

tain property for sale to the city, was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis~ that the
communication be filed and the Clerk be instructed to advertise

site for the City or Vernoh.fsaid property to be at least
two and one-half' aeres in area and be n.orth of the river
and east of Soto Street. Motion carried.
CommunicatIon from Sam Olson, requesting permit
to operate barber shop at 2822 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.

Report of the Police Department, wherein it was
stated that the. request of the Post Of'.ficeDepartment had been
complied with to its satisfactiori'in reference to parking condi-
tions in front of the Vernon Branch, was read.
It was moved'by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that the
communication be filed. Motion oarried.

per.mission to install electric feeder to run from main switchboard,
under 27th Streetana'aeross Violet alley on overhead structural
steel frame, was read.

Engineer. Motion carried.
ConmIUllicatlon from Howard'McCurdy regarding his
communication of March 2nd was read.
It was moved by DUrbin, seconded by Leonis, that the .
same be referred to the City Attorney for reply. Motion carried.
Communication frol11 the Owens Illinois Pacific Coast
Co., requesting permission. to construct wooden. loading dock
along Soto Street~ the.structure to be temporary during'the
oonstruotion ot warehouse building at Fruitland and Soto Street,
was read.
It'was moved by Leonis, seconded by DUrbin, that<the
communication be filed and pe~tgranted. Motion carried.

of March 23rd and 30th, and April 6th~ were read.
It was moved by Dlirbill, seoonded by Peralta, that
the same be filed. Motion carried.

Report of the Police Department was read.

same be filed. Motion carried.

ing permit to conduct a garment manu.faoturing business wi thin
the city, the name of the establishment to be the Ver.non Cloak
and Suit Co., was read.
It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the
same be referred to the whole board. Motion carried.
Atthist1me the City Clerk announced that he had. upon
his desk<several bids for the furnishing of pump under Specifica-
tions No. 102, pursuant to notice inviting same.
It was moved by DUrbin, seconded by'Peralta, that the
Clerk open and read the bids. Motion carried.

It was mOved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the
bids be referred to the engineer for checking and report. Motion
carried.
At this time the City Attorneyr ecommended that the
City Council reject the claim of W. H. Lummus against the City.
It was moved. by Leoriis, seconded by Durbin, that the
claim be rejected and the City Clerk instructed to notify
claimant of the action. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the
Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids f'or certain steel bars,
as set forth in the request of' the Acting City Engineer. Motion
carried.

It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the
demands be allowed and warrants drawn for same. Motion oarried.
