19370615 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF ~ REGULAR ~mETING OF TEE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD TUESDAY, JUNE 15, 1937, AT THREE 0' CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. Furlong. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Councilmen present: Councilmen absent: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Peralta Levy It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Durbin, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer, recommending the acceptance of the work none by Vernon Paving Co. on Vernori Avenue, between Santa Fe Avenue~and Alameda Street, was read. Demand in the sum of $12,37~.56, representing 75 per cent of the amount due at this time, was attacbAd. " It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed and the work accepted in conformance to the rec&mmendation-of the City Engineer, and that the demand in the sum of $12,374.56 be approve~. Motion carried. Communication from Carl A. Heinze, consulting elec- trical engineer, regarding rearrangement a: wire" diagram sub- mitted by Southern California Edison Company Ltd., in connec.1;ion with switch gear at power plant, was read. It Was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be-filed. Motion carried. x Notice of surrender"of Franchise No. 119 by Southern California Ed1.sim. Company Ltd. was read. x It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the same be accepted and filed. Motion carried. Report of the Union Oil Company on Los Angeles County Franchise No. 596 N. S., together with check in the sum of $12.93, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed and check accepted. Motion carried. . Communication from Conaway-Cooper Company, requesting that the City pay to the Teclmical Glass Company, by way of reparation of certain sti.m.s in connection with light and,power billings from the City to said company, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed and referred to the consulting electrical engineer. Motion carried. Communication from W. R. Bowen, Secretary of the representatives of various cities of.Los ~ngeles County, in re- gard to a meeting between the Board of Supervisors and the ' representatives of various cities, to be held June 18, 1937, at ten o'clock A. M., was read. - as=! It was moved'by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Ivan G. Bartram and Sidney E. Phillips, for permit to operate restaurant at 2100 East Vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that the same be"r eferred to t he Police Department for report. Motion carried. Connnunication from H. L. Harvill, for permit to operate a tool and die casting shop at 2344 East 38th Street, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communications from the following firms for permission to haul refuse from their premises upon and along the public streets of the City of Vernon were read: A-I House Movers West Coast Kalsomine Co. James H. Knapp Co. Mundet Cork Corp. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralta, that the communications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 871, accepting certain real property for and in the name of the City was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Leonis, that RESOI~TION NO. 871 be ~dopted. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 505, an ordinance granting the Southern Pacific Railroad Company a spur track across the easterly road- way of Alameda Street, was read for second reading. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that ORDINANCE NO. 505 be read for second reading. Mot;on carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that the same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer, stating that the City of Los Angeles requested permission to close 38th Street crossing at Alameda Street was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the" same be referred to the Street Connnittee and the City Attorney. Motion carried. Communication from Los Angeles Paving Company, re~ questing permit to install portable asphalt mixing plant oil their property located at 3700 South So to Street, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and the permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from J. Artale, Fire Chief, requesting that the city advertise for bids for a one and one-half ton truck to be used by the Fire Department, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin, that the communication be filed and that the request of the Fire Chief be complied with, and the CJa rk instructed to advertise for bids for a one and one-half ton truck. Motion carried. The following applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: Application 5364: of Buttress & McClellan Co., for permit to construct driveway on the East side of Santa Fe Avenue, 540 feet north of Vernon Avenue. Application 5365: of Southern California Telephone Co., for permIt-to move pole two feet south on the east side of Ross Street, north of 38th Street, to clear storm drain. Application 5366: of Southern California Telephone Co., for permit to replace broken pole on the north side of 38th Street 663 feet east of Ross Street. Application 5367: of Southern California Telephone Co., for permit to place one anchor'on the north side of 46th Street, west of St. Charles Street. Application 5368: of W. J. Tannahill, for permit to construct drIveway, sidewalk and patch curb returns on the east side of Ross street, from 38th street to spur track. Application 5369: of Stanton Reed Co., for permit to construct :Cwo driveways, curb returns and sidewalk at the northeast comer of 27th Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Application 5370: of Kennedy Name Plate Co., for permit to fill in sidewalk between existing sidewalk and curb on the south side of Pacific Boulevard in front of their premises. Application 5371: of Southern California Edison Co., for permit to remove anchor in front of entrance to Kennedy Name Plate Co., 4509 Pacific Blvd. Application 5372: of Buttress & McClellan, for permit to connect to sewer at 2309 East 38th Street. Application 5373: Of Owens Illinois Pacific Coast Co., for permit to connect to sewer at 5120 South Soto Street. Application 5374: of Pioneer Flintkote Co., for permit to connect to sewer at 55th and Alameda Street. ~plication 5375: of W. . Brown, for permit to connect to sewer ax 2272 East 49th Street.
