The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Furlong. Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Durbin, Levy, Peralta. Councilmen Absent: None. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Levy, that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. An Ordinance No. 506, granting to the City of Los Angeles and the Department of Water and Power of the City of Los Angeles, a certain Franchise to construct and operate a certain transmission line in the City, was read by title. Upon reading of the title of the Ordinance No. 506, it was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralto that the reading of the Ordinance in full be dispensed with, and the same passed for first reading. Motion carried. Communication from H. A. Payne, County Auditor, submitt- ing assessed valuations for year 1937-38, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from H. A. Payne, County Auditor, submit- ting a copy of tax ordinance, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy that same be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried. Communication from the Vernon Industrial Development Association, acknowledging receipt of Petroleum Equipment letter regarding parking conditions on Alameda Street, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy that same be filed. Motion carried. Report of the Southern California Gas Company on Los Angeles County Franchise, No. 463, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralto that same be filed. Motion carried. Communication from W. C. Hardesty Co., requesting permit to create a drumming plant at 2060 East 51st Street, was read. It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Levy that same be referred to the Police Department for a report. Motion carried. afi8 Communication rrom R. M. Johnston requesting permit to open a Typo-Mat Service at 4924 District Blvd., was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that com- munication be riled, and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from the Moore Machinery Co., requesting permit to haul refuse from premises at 2626 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralto that the communication be riled, and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication rrom the Vernon Tool Co., Ltd., request- ing permit to deposit non-combustible rubbish in the City or Vernon dump yard, was read. It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralto that the communication be riled, and the Clerk be instructed to notify the Vernon Tool Co., that private non-combustible rubbish could not be deposited in the City of Vernon dump yard. Motion carried. Communication rrom the Owens-Illinois Pacific Coast Co., requesting permission to erect a temporary shipping platrorm on Fruitland Road to be used until Building No. 66 is completed, was read. (Plan attached) It was moved by Durbin, seconded by Peralto that the communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Saunders Bros. was read. It was moved by Durbin and seconded by Peralto that same be referred to the City Engineer for reply. Motion carried. Resolution No. 881, apprOVing the Budget Requirements of the City of Vernon, for the year 1937-38 was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Durbin that Resolution No. 881 be adopted. Motion carried. Ordinance No. 507, fixing the rate of taxes and levying taxes for the fiscal year 1937-38, was read for the first reading. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Durbin that the Ordinance be passed for the first reading. Motion carried. The following Applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer were read: Application 5450: Southern California Gas Co., for permit to install gas service on south side Fruitland Road, 266 reet west of Magnolia Ave; Application 5451: Southern California Gas Co., for permit to install gas service at 3315 E. Vernon Ave.; Application 5452: Southern California Gas Co., for pe~it to install gas service at 5055 Magnolia Ave. -2- aS9 It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralto that the applications be filed, and permits granted.
