MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD TUESDAY, AUGUST "24th., 1937, AT
THREE 0' CLOCK P. M., AT THE CITY HALL OF
THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE,
VERNON, CALIFORNIA.

'fhe meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Peralta.
Councilmen absent: Levy, Durbin.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Leonie that the
reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with.
Motion carried.
ORDINANCE No. 507, an ordinance setting the tax rate
for the fiscal year 1937-38, was read for a second reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that
Ordinance No. 507 be passed for the seoond reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE No. 507 was read for the third and final
reading.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that
Ordinance No. 507 be adopted. Motion Carried, by the following
vote:
Ayes: Leonis,
Furlong,
Peralta.
Noes: None
Absent: Levy,
Durbin.
A Connnunication from the County Surveyor regarding the
checking of subdivision mape was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that same
be filed. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department in reference to the
storing of building material in the parkway and curb at the Fibre-
board Products Co., during construction of building, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Leonis that same
be laid over until the next meeting. Motion carried.
A communication from the Paramount Manufacturing Co.,
for a pe~t to conduct business of gasoline service station equip-
ment at 2336 East 38th. Street, was read.
It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from Pacific Gear and Tool Works, re-
questing a permit to operate a machine shop at 2053 East 38th.
Street, was read.

communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from the E. W. Boreheeding Co. requesting
a permit to manufacture venetian blinds at 3160 Bandini Boulevard,
was read.
It was moved by Peralto~ seconded by Leonis that the
communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from the Machinist Tool and Supply Co.
requesting permit to haul refuse from premises of 3690 Santa Fe
Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Leonis that the
communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried~
A communication from the Union Bag Co., requesting permit
to haul refuse from premises at 4355 Fruitland Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralto that the
communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
A report of the Vernon Industrial Development Association
for the period ending June 30th~ 1937 was read.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Leonis that
same be filed. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE No. 508, an ordinance ordering the closing of
a portion of Bickett Street~ was read for the first reading.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Leonis that ordinance
No. 508 be passed for the first reading. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION No. 883, a resolution consenting to the City
Treasurer entering into contracts for active and inactive deposits
of the City of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Peralto~ seconded by Leonis that resolu-
tion No. 883 be adopted. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval of
the City Engineer, were read:
Application 5472: Glass Containers Co., for permit to in-
stall drain pipe in Irving Street from 37th Street~ 150 feet north
thereof.
Application 5473: Western Pipe and Steel Co., for permit
to replace curb on 57th. Street, 250 feet west of Santa Fe Avenue
and on 2nd. Street, 105 feet south of 57th. Street.
APElioation 5474: Krasn Packing Company for permit to con-
struct 7 inch asphaltic concrete driveway at 3290 E. Vernon Avenue.
Application 5475: Southern California Telephone Company
for permit to remove 3 sections of 6 duct tile and replace with split
C.W.D. on south side of Leonis Blvd., 8 feet west of Downey Road-due
to catch basin being built at this location.

permit to set 1 pole 24 inches west of fact of curb, and 1 anchor
6 inches east of P.L. to hold guy strain from pole 3657.
Application 5477: Buttress & McClellan for permit to make
sewer connection at 3828 Santa Fe Avenue.
