19381212 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes r ' I I I 1 ---l~: ~---f1l"""'- \..,' MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERN ON, HELD MONDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1938, AT TWO 0' CLOCK P.M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Furlong. Councilmen present: Furl~ng, Peralta, Scheider & Leonis Councilmen absent: Levy. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk announced that he had bids on his desk pursuant to Notice advertising for same, for one deep well turbine pump. At this time the bids were opened and read aloud, from the following firms: Byron Jackson Co.; Layne & Bowler; Pomona Pump Co.; Roy G. Davis Co.; Fairbanks Morse Co.; Victor Equipment Co.; Food Machinery Corp.; and Wintroath Pump Co. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that all bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk opened and read aloud bids from the following firms for the reconstruction of the City's reservoir roof: Miller-Saunders Co.; Reid & Alexander; Ryan A. Grut; and Oberg Bros. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that all bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk opened and read aloud bids from the following firms for the improvements to 37th Street in the City of Vernon: W. E. Hall Co.; Oswald Bros.; Warren-Southwest Inc.; Griffith Company; Vernon Paving Co.; L. A. Paving Company; Vido Kovacevich; and C. O. Sparks & Mundo Engineering Co. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that all bids be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk opened and read aloud bids from the following firms for the oonstructton of storm-water drains in Leonis Blvd: R. A. Wattson; W. E. Hall Company] Gogo & Rados; Bebek & Brkich & V. C. K. Construction Co.; Radicn & Brown; Ed Green; Artukovich Bros.; Lako & Bosnyak; and Case Construction Co. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that all b~ds be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Motion carried. -1- 108 A communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, re- questing the authority to employ the fo~lowing persons in con- nection with PWA Projects; was read: J~es T. Ellis Asst. Engineer Rodney B. Curtis Party Chief H. C. Vanden Bossche Rodman Ervin E. Lux ,Chainman at at at at 1175.00 per month; 190.00 per month; 140.00 per month; 110.00 per month. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Scheider that all men requested by the City Engineer be employed at the salary set forth in the City Engineer's request, all men to serve at the pleasure of the Board. Motion carried. Resolution No. 958, a resolution employing Spencer & Love, Bond Attorneys, on the sewer bond, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Reso- lution No. 958 be adopted. Motion carried. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that a recess be declared of the meeting until the hour of ten o'clock P. M. Motion carried. The meeting reconvened at ten o'clock P. M. At this time the City Engineer reported that he was not yet able to make a report and recommendation on the bids heretofore received for the doing of certain work for the City of Vernon, and requested that the meeting adjourn to some future date.
