MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON, HELD TffiffiSDAY, JANUARY
12th, 1939, AT.. TWO O'CLOCK P.M.,
AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE,
VERNON, CALIFORNIA.
A special meeting of the City Council of the City
of Vernon was held on the 12th day of January, 1939, pursuant
to Article 5233, Section 858 of Deering's General Laws of the
State of California, and the following Notice and Consent:

"To the Members of the City Council of the City
of Vernon:
"Notiee is hereby given that a special meeting
of the City Council of the City of Vernon will be held
at the City Hall, 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, Vernon, Calif-
ornia, at 2 o'clock, P.M., on the 12 day of January,
1939, for the purpose of adopting Resolution No. 954,
a Resolution of the City COUncil of the City of Vernon
Awarding the Contract for the Work and Improvement
described in the Notice Inviting Sealed Proposals or
Bids and Specifications No. 116.

"CONSENT TO MEETING."
"We, the undersigned, being all of the members of
the City Council of the City of Vernon, hereby accept
service of the foregoing Notice, waiving any and all
irregularities in such service and such Notice, and
consent and agree that said City Council shall meet
at the time and place therein named and for the pur-
pose therein stated.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong, and on roll call the following councilmen answered

and Richard Levy.
The following councilman was absent:
Herman Scheider.
The members named constitute all the members of the
Ci ty Council of the City of Vernon.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the read-
ing of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with.
Motion carried.
A communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, sub-
mitting a letter from K. A. Godwin, Regional Director, F.E.A.
of Public Works, authorizing the award of contraet to Peerless
Pump Division, Food Machinery Corp., for furnishing and in-
stalling a deep well pump at their bid price of $6,282.86, was
read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Leonis that same be
filed. Motion carried.
The following Resolution, No. 954, was read in full:
"RESOLUTION NO. 954"
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON AWARDING THE CONTRACT FOR TIlE WORK
AND IMPROVEMENT DESCRIBED IN THE NOTICE IN-
VITING SEALED PROPOSALS OR BIDS AND SPECIFI-
CATIONS 116.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon did,
in open session, on the 12th day of December, 1938,
open, examine and deelare the sealed proposals or
bids for the doing of certain work and tmprovement
in said City under and pursuant to a Notice invit-
ing sealed proposals or bids for the doing of said
worki described in said Notice and in Specifications
No. 16, herefofore approved by the City Couneil of
the City of Vernon on the 15th day of November, 1938,
by Resolution No. 945; said Resolution is now on
file in the office of the City Clerk, and is hereby
expressly referred to for further particulars.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
Section 1: That the said City Council hereby
rejects all of said proposals or bids except the
next herein mentioned, and hereby awards the con-
tract for doing said work and improvement,. to the
lowest responsible bidder, to-wit, PEERLESS PUMP
DIVISION, FOOD MACHINERY CORP., at the price named
in its bid.

Section 2: The City Attorney of the City
of Vernon is hereby authorized and instructed
to prepare the necessary contract, to conform
with the Notice inviting sealed proposals or
bids, Specifications No. 116 and this Resolu-
tion of Award, for, and on behalf of the City
of Vernon.
Section 3: The City Clerk of the City of
Vernon is hereby directed to certify to the
passage of this Resolution~ and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall De in fUll force and
effect.
Adopted and approved this 12th day of
January, 1939.

The above resolution, introduced by Councilman Levy,
and seconded by Councilman Leonis, was adopted by the follow-
ing vote:
AYES: Furlong, Leonis, Peralta, Levy.
NOES: None
ABSENT: Scheider.
The Mayor, J. J. Furlong thereupon declared said Reso-
lution carried and the said Mayor thereupon signed the said
Resolution in approval thereof.
It was moved by ~evy, seconde
meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
