Councilmen present: Furlong, Peralta, Scheider, LeVy. Councilmen absent: Leonis. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. ORDINANCE No. 527, an ordinance granting the Southern Pacific Company a spur track franchise along and across a portion of the alley between 37th and 38th Street, east of Alameda Street, was read for second reading. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that Ordin- ance No. 527_ passed for second reading. Motion carried. Ordinance No. 527, an ordinance granting the Southern Pacific C9mpany a spur track franchise along and across a portion' of the alley between 37th and 38th Streets, east of Alameda Street, was read for the third and final reading. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that Ordin- ance No. 527 be adopted. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Furlong, Scheider, Peralta, Levy NOES: None ABSENT: Leonis. A communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer re- garding the proposed street improvement in Boyle and Magnoliaivenues, (PWA-Calif. 2169-F No.2), was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that same Motion carried. be filed. A communication frQm Herman Scheider regarding traffic conditions at 26th and Soto Streets, was read. , It was moved by Scheider seconded by Peralta that the matter qe referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. A communication from H. & J. Truck Company, 2029 E. 46th Street, requesting permission to construct driveway without constructing concrete apron, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that the matter be referred to the City Engine-er with power to act. Motion carried. A communication from Swift & Company, requesting a "no parking" zone near 2691 E. Vernon Avenue, and a release of ~no parking~ restrictions near old e~~rance, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the ma~ter be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. -1- ,/ 1.6t A. communication from E. H. Short, 821 Loma Vista St., El Segundo, California, requesting a box lunch license, was read. It was mOved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that the matter be referred to the Police Department.. Motion carried. A communication from John Steck, requesting a permit to sell ice cream on the premises of Patten Blinn Lumber Co., was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that the matter be referred to the Police Depar.tment. Motion carried. Communications from the following firms, requesting permission to haul refuse upon and along the public streets of the City of Vernon, were read: United Dressed Beef Co., of 4360 S. Soto Street; Standard Packing Co., of 2440 E. Vernon Avenue; and. Midway Chemical Co., of 4725 District Blvd. It was moved. by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the communications be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried. A communicatipn from Fr~cis Bates, City Engine~r, requesting a formal resolution asking for an extension of time in the matter of P.W.A. Docket Calif. 2l69-F, Contract No.2, for the paving of Magnolia and Boyle Avenues, was read.' It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communication be filed. Motion carried. Resolution No. 981, a ~resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon declaring the per diem wage rate to be used in improvement of Magnolia and Boyle Avenues, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that Reso- luttGn No. 981 be adopted. Motion carried. Resolution No. 982, a resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon, requesting an extension of ttm~ from the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, to complete work to be done under contract No.2, Street and Sewer Improvement, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that Reso- lution No. 982 be adopted. Motion carried. . It was moved by Peralta, second~d by Scheider that the City Clerk be instructid to advertise for bids for the doing of the work referred to in Resolution No. 981 and 982. Motion carried. The report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Scheider; seconded by Peralta that same Motion carried. be filed. The Minutes of the Committee on Light, Power; Water, Building and Purchasing as of April 18, 1939, were read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that the same stand approved as read. Motion carried. -2- L62 The following applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: Application 6350: Southern California Water Co., to repair water main at 3400 E. Slauson Avenue. _ Apglic~tion 6351: Vernon Lightning Blue Print Co.~ to install roof drain through curb and under sidewalk at 5300 Santa Fe Avenue; Application 6352: Kinney Iron Works to ins.ta11 drive~ .&7 on Hampton Street near 49th Street. ~~~lication 6353: Southern California Water Company, to re10cate~' main and make service connection at 5001 Pacific Blvd. Application 6354: Lee Mendoza to construct depressed curb and driveway at 2226 ~. 38th Street. Application 6355: Southern California Telephone Co., to place 2881 of underground conduit and place splicing box on west side of Pacific Blvd., 69' from Chambers Street to a point 359 feet south~rly. AEplication 6356: Southern California Telephone Co., to place splicing box 50 feet south of 49th Street on the west side of Pacific Blvd. Application 6357: Southern California Gas Co.~ to install gas service at 2263 E. Vernon Avenue. , Application 6358: Buttress & McClellan, to construct cement concre~e sidewalk at 5001 Pacific Blvd. Application 6359: Southern California Gas Co.~ to install servI"ce at b'100 S. Alameda Street. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the applications be fi1ed~ and permits granted. Motion carried. Demands on the general fund in the sum of $11~6l2.24 were read. It was moved by Levy~ seconded by Scheider that the demands be allowed, and warrants drawn. Motion carried.
