The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J.
J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Peralta, Scheider
Councilmen absent: Levy, Leonis.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that
the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed
with. Motion carried.
A communication .from the City Engineer, of the City
of Los Angeles, regarding preliminery Resolution of consent in
the matter of Washington Blvd., Downey Road to Soto street, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
matter be ~eferred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.
A communication from Associated Assessment Engineers,
Los Angeles, regarding return to tax rolls of property deeded to
State, etc., was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that same

A communication from California-Oregon Paper Mills, re-
garding parking zone at 2001 E. 57th Street, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the
matter be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
A communication from Los Angeles By-Products Co., re-
garding parking zone at 1819 East 25th Street, was read.

A communication from Mrs. Florence Artale, expressing
appreciation for kindness shown family on death of Joseph Artale, was

Communications from the following firms, requesting per-
haul refuse upon and along the public streets of the City
were read: H. C. Witherspoon Inc., of 4901 Santa Fe Avenue;
Materials Ltd., of 2415 E. 37th Street; Oxweld Acetylene Co.,

of 2315 East 52nd Street; Hall-Scott Motor Car Co., of 5041 Santa
Fe Avenue; Jas. R. Mathews. Excavating Co., of S.E. corner of Soto
and Vernon Avenue, re construction of General Petroleum Service
Station; and American Can Company, of 4815 Santa Fe Avenue.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the
communications be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried.
Resolution No. ~992, a resolution of the City Council
granting leave of absence to John B. Leonis for a period of thirty
days, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that
Resolution No. 992 be adopted. Motion carried.
The Minutes of the Committee on Light, Power, Water,
Building and Purchasing, as of June 20, 1939, were read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that same
stand approved as read. Motion carried.
The report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that same

A communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer,
submitting 1939~1940 Budget Request for the Engineering Department,
Street Department, Street Cleaning and Sewage Disposal, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed, and the matter referred to the Finance Com-
mittee. Motion carried.
, A communication from Francis B.ates, City Engineer,
recommending a salary increase for L. V. Olson, Engineering Drafts-
man from $170.00 per month to $180.00 per month starting July 1,
1939, ,was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be fi~ed, and the recommendation of the City Engineer
be concurred in. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval of

connection on north side of Vernon Avenue, 150 feet east of Boyle Ave.
Application 6436: Universal Brass Manufacturing Co.,
to make sewer connections at 2328 E. 49th Street.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the
applications be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried.

demands be allowed and warrants drawn. Motion carried.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
meeting adjourn to the 11th day of JUly, 1939, at the hour of three
o'clock P.M. Motion carried.
