The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Peralta, Scheider, Levy.
Councilmen absent: Leonis.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that the read-
ing of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with.,
Motion carried.
A communication from Gilmore Oil Company, commending the
fire department for the work at a fire on June 22, 1939, at their
Vernon Refinery, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed. Motion carried.
A communication from Roy Ochsenbein, for a permit to con-
duct a wholesale meat business at 3712 S. Soto Street, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from Good Humor Ice Cream Company, re-
questing a permit for Edward B. Waintromb to sell Good Humor prod-
ucts within the City of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from R. Shurtleff Co., requesting a permit
to operate a furniture business at 5511 Boyle Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communi-
cation be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
The following applications, having the approval of the
City Engineer, were read:
Application 6440: General Petroleum Corp., to connect
to sewer at 4300 Soto Street.
Application 6441: General Petroleum Corp., to construct
a driveway and sidewalk at the southeast corner of Vernon Avenue
and Soto Street.

It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the ap-
plications be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
