The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Scheider, Levy
Councilmen absent: Peralta.
Tt8was~moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the read-
ing of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with.
Motion carried.
A communication from Vernon Industrial Development Ass'n.,
regarding request of Southern California Edison Company for ap-
proval of, as to form, a Conveyance and two Partial Releases
covering the substation constructed by Edison Company, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that same be
filed. Motion carried.
A communication from King Transportation Co., requesting
a permit to operate a transportation business at 23~ E. 48th
Street, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Leonis that the com-
munication be file,d, and permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from Angelo Papoulios, requesting a permit
to operate a restaurant at 5712 S. Boyle Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that the matter
be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
A communication from E.\L. Atkinson, in behalf of H. Levin
for a permit to operate and handle Cooperage, Steel Drums, and
Wood Tanks on the northeast corner of 26th and Soto Streets, was
read. .
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Scheider that the matter
be laid over to the next regular meeting. Motion carried.
A communication from California Flaxseed Products Co.,
requesting a permit to haul refuse from their premises of 3135 E.
26th Street, upon and along the public streets of the City of Vernon,
was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the communi-
cation be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.

A check from the Southern California Edison Company,
in the sum of $243,692.50, for principal on Light & Power Bonds
due 10-1-39, in the sum of $98,000.00, and interest. due 10~1-39,
in the sum of $74,010.00, and interest due 4-1-40, 1n the sum of
$71,682.50, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Scheider that the
check be accepted, and filed. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 993, a resolution of the City Council of
the City of Vernon, providing for the Issuance and sale of bonds
of City of Vernon Sewer District No. One in the sum of Three Hun-
, dred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($350,000.00) for the purpose of
the construction and acquisition of sewers in said district, and the
construction of outlets for sewers already constructed in said dis-

trict, for collecting and alsposing of the sewage of said district,
including the acquisition and construction of all necessary mach-
inery, apparatus and other property to enable said sewage to be
gathered and collected, including the acquisition of rights in sewers
and outfall sewers of the City of Los Angeles, to enable the sewage
of said district to be disposed of by flowing the same through said
sewers and outfall sewers o~ the City of Los Angeles, and. its works
and plants, to and into the Pacific Ocean, as particularly described
in Proposition No. 1 of Ordinance No. 526 of said City, calling a
spmdal election in said district for the purpose of submitting the
question of the issuance of said bonds to the voters of said dis-
trict; fixing and determining the maturities of said bonds, and the
form thereof; and providing for the levying and collection of taxes
for the payment thereof; and creating a fund to be known as the
"City of Vernon Sewer District No. One Election 1939 Bonds, Interest
and Sinking Fund" into which shall be placed all such taxes as are
levied and colleeted each year upon the taxable property in such
district levied for the purpose of meeting all sums coming due for
principal and interest on all of said bonds, was read.
It,was moved by Scheider, seconded by Leonis that
No. 993 be adopted. Motion carried by the following

It was moved by Scheider, seCOnded by Levy that the meeting
adjourn. Motion carried.
