REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY,COUNCIL OF THE CITY,OF VERNON~ CALIFORNIA, HELD TUESDAY, AUGUST 1, 1939, AT THE HOUR OF THREE O'CLOCK P .].~., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE, AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Councilmen present: Leonis, Furlong, Peralta, Scheider Councilmen absent: Levy. IT was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. A communication from the City Engineer, recommending the acceptance of theU. S. Electric Motor by Reed Electric Company, installed for the Water Department, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communication be filed, and the recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in. Motion carried. A communication from the Los Angeles Coun~ Regioftal, Planning Commission, regarding a public hearing on adoptlonofMaster Plan for the Los Angeles County Regional Planning District, to be held August 9, 1939, in the State Building, Los Angeles, at 10 o'clock A.M., was read. _ ~ ...:.. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Scheider that the co~~ munication be filed. Motion, carried. A communication from Elbert F. Johnson, regarding the' vacancy of the Chief in the Fire Department, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the 11 communication be filed. Motion carried. ,I A communication from R. Shurtleff Co., requesting a permit to manufacture card tables at 2288 E. 48th Street, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that the com- munication be filed, andper.mit granted. Motion carried. A communication from Recordall Manufacturing Company, re- questing a permit to operate a sound recording business within the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Scheider, that the communication be filed, and permit granted, subject'to the approval of the acting Chief of the Firre Department. Motion carried. -1- A communication from H. H. Lesch and L. F. Martin. for a permit to conduct an experimental laboratory at 4700 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed, and permit granted subject to the approval of the Acting Fire Chief. Motion carried. A communication from Mrs. Florence O.Smith, requesting a permit to operate a restaurant at 4401 Produce Plaza, was read. It was moved by Scheider, s~conded by Peralta that the matter be referred to the Chief of Police for a report. Motion carried. A communication from Samuel Pogorelsky, requesting a permit to operate a,restaurant at 4401 Downey Road, to be known as "Cowboy Cafe", was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the matter be referred to the Chief of Police. Motion carried. A communication from Crescent Refining & Oil Company for a permit to move 1000 barrel iron fUel oil storage tank from their premises at Hercules Oil Company on East 30th Street to 2460 E. 28th Street, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that the communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried. A communication from A-I Ice Cream Co., at 1211 S. Central Avenue, Los Angeles, requesting a permit to sell ice cream within the City of Vernon, was read. . It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that the communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried. Communications from the following firms, requesting permits to haul refUse from their premises, upon and along the public streets of the City of Vernon, were read.: Wesco Waterpaints Inc. (West Coast Kalso.mine Co) 3263 E.26th Street; Aluminum Company of America, from 5151 Magnolia Ave; Tatum Tire Company, from 2004 E. Vernon Avenue. _ from and It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communications be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried. Resolution No.994, a resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon, authorizing and instructing the City Ireas- ~rer to transfer the sum of $2500.00 from the Emergency, Fund,to the Library Fund" of th~ City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that Reso- luntion No. 994 be adopted. Motion carried. -2- :192 Resolution No. 995, a resolution of th~ G~ty Council of the City of Vernon approving the appointment of the Board of Library. Trustees," was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Resolution No. 995 be adopted. Motion carried. . The Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Scheider that same be filed. Motion carried. . The Minutes of the Committee on Light, Power, Water, Purchasing and Building as of July 18, 1939,-were read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the Minutes stand approved as read. Motion carried. The following applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: Application 6461: Safeway Stores, Inc., for a permit to const'ruct a cement concrete sidewalk and cement concrete driveway with depressed curb on the south side of Vernon Avenue, east of Alameda Street. Application 6462: U. S. Spring & Bumlfpr Co., for a permit to construct a depressed curb for driveway on- north side of 50th Street, approx~ately 600' east of Boyle Avenue. Application 6463: Warman Steel Casting Co., for a permit to connect to s.~wer at 6100 Boyle Avenue. Application 6464: Bohemian Distributing Co., for a permit to connect to sewer at 2254 E. 49th Street. Application 6465: Southern California Edison Co.~ for a permit to remove pole and,anchor on south side of Fruitland Road, 70' east of Santa Fe Avenue. Application 6466: Southern California Edison CO.,. for a permit to install two poles and four anchors and remove seven poles and six aneho~s on east and west sides of Santa Fe Avenue, 51st St., and 52nd Street. Application 6467: American Can Company, to lay two 3t inch electric conduits in east 49th Street, approximately 1150' west of Santa Fe Avenue. Application 6468: Southern California Gas Co., for a permit to raise meter box at 2626 Santa Fe Avenue. Application 6469: Southern California Gas Co., for a permit to locate leak on east side of Boyle~venue, 200' south of 54th Street. Application 6470: Southern California Water Co. for a permit to repair water main in East Slauson Avenue, 375' east of Boyle Avenue. -3- It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta, that the applications be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried. Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $9,217.37, were read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the demands be allowed, and warrants drawn. Motion carried..
