MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR
MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF VERNON, CALIFORNIA, HELD
TUESDAY, AUGUST 22nd, 1939, AT THE
HOUR OF THREE O'CLOCK P.M., AT THE
CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERN ON, CALIF.

The Meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Councilmen present: Leonis, Furlong, Peralta, Scheider.
Councilmen absent: Levy.
It was moved by Scheider, second~d by Peralta that the
reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with.
Motion carried.
Ordinance No. 528, an ordinance of the City Council of
the City of Vernon, fixing the Rate of taxes and levying the taxes
for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1939, was read for the second
reading.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Ordin-
ance No. 528 be passed for the second reading. Motion carried.
Ordinance No. 528, an ordinance of the City Council of
the City of Vernon, fixing the rate of taxes and levying the taxes
for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1939, was read for the third
and final reading.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Ordin-
ance No. 528 be adopted. ~otion carried by the following vote:
AYES: Leonia, Furlong, Peralta, Scheider.
NOES: None
ABSENT: Levy.
A report of the Southern California Gas Company on Los
Angeles County Franchise No. 463, with check in the sum of $0.07
attached, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that same
be referred to the Finance Committee. Motion carried.
A communication from Anthony J. Telioh and Bernard Turner,
requesting a permit to operate a service station to be known as
Packer's Super Service at 4302 S. Soto Street, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the
communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
The report of the Police Department on application of
Andrew W. Krag for a permit to operate a lunch wagon in packing
house district, with a recommendation that the permit be gr.nted
waa read. . ,
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that the
matter be referred to the next regular meeting. Motion carried.

The report of the Police Department on the application
of Glenn W. Hudson for a box lunch permit, with a recommendation
that the permit be granted, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
matter be referred to the next regular meeting. Motion carried.
A communication from Littlejohn-Reuland Corp., regarding
parking conditions at 2655 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that the mat-
ter be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
A communication from A-l Ice Cream Co., 1211 Central Ave-
nue, Los Angeles, requesting an ice c~eam vender's permit and ~icense,
was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the mat-
ter be referred to the next regular meeting. Motion carried.
A communication from Jam Handy Picture Service, Inc., re-
questing a permit to take moving pictures on premises of Owens Ill-
inois Pacific Coast Company, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Scheider that the mat-
ter be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
