MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
CALIFORNIA, HELD TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER
5, 1939, AT THE HOUR OF THREE O'CLOCK
P.M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF
VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON,
CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Peralta, Scheider
and Levy.
Councilmen absent: None
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the
reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with.
Motion carried.
An Order of the Railroad Commission, extending time for
the construction of spur track across Alameda Street to serve
Safeway Stores by the Southern Pacific Company, was read.
It was moved by Leonis seconded by Levy that same be
referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.
A report of the Union Oil Company on Los Angeles
County Franchise Ordinance No. 596 N.S. for the year ending
June 30, 1939, was read. (A check in the sum of $10.61 attached).
It was moved by Leonie, seconded by Scheider that the
Report be filed, and the check accepted. Motion carried.
A report of the Loe Angeles Railway Company on Franchise
Ordinance No. 91, for the year ending August 12, 1939, was read.
(A check in the sum of $274.26, attached).
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta, that the
report be filed, and the check accepted. Motion carried.
A communication from United Cork Company, for a permit
to operate a warehouse and sales office at 2248 E. 37th Street,
was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the
communication be filed, and the permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from F. Teskey for a permit to operate
a service station at SE corner of Pacific Blvd. and Fruitland
Road, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the
communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried.
A communication from David Crane, 4036 E. 6th Street,
Los Angeles, requesting a permit to operate a lunch route within
the City, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
matter be referred to the Police Department for a report. Motion
carried.

A communication ~rom Santa Fe Tire & Rubber Co., re-
garding parking conditions at 25th and Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the
matter be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communications from Orient~l Rug Cushion Co., and Under-
writers Salvage Company, requesting permits to haul refuse ~rom
their premises upon and along the public streets of the City of
Vernon, were read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy that the communi-
cations be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried.
The Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that same be
filed. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1003, a resolution of the City Council of
the City of Vernon, amending and correcting minutes of an adjourned
regular meeting of the Council held in the City o~ Vernon on the
8th day of March, 1939, at 3:00 o'clock P.M., and authorizing and
instructing the City Clerk of the City of Vernon to amend, modi~y
and correct the Minutes of said meeting in accordance therewith,
was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Levy, that Resolu-
tion No. 1003 be adopted. Motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: Furlong, Leonis, Levy, Scheider, Peralta.
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
The Minutes of the committee on Light, Power, Water,
Purchasing and Building as of August 15, 1939, were read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that said
Minutes stand approved as read. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval of
the City Engineer, were read:
Application 6507: Southern California Gas Co., to re-
locate main on north side o~ 49th Street, 1153 feet west of Santa
Fe Avenue.

Application 6515: United States Spring & Bumper Co., to
construct storm drain connection on south side of Leonis Blvd.,
685 feet west of Magnolia.
Application 6516: American Can Company, to construct
aft A.C. pavement on north side of 49th Street from 736 to 1191 ft.
west of Santa Fe Avenue.
Application 6517: L. A. Railway Company, to reset bus
stop on east side of Soto Street, 50 ft. south of Vernon Avenue.
Application 6518: Richfield Oil Co., to install valve
box on Boyle Avenue near Leonis Blvd.
Application 6519: Sugar Products Co., to install roof
drain through curb at 2317 E. 38th Street.
Application 6520: Ducommun Metal & Supply Co., to install
twc 2i inch electric conduit in E. 49th Street, approximately 500
feet east of Alameda Street.
Application 6521: Lang Transportation Co., to replace
existing water line in 55th Street, approx~ately 45 ft. west of
Santa Fe Aven~e.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
applications be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried.
Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $7,424.69 were
read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Scheider that the
