19391205 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, CALIFORNIA, HELD TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 1939, AT THREE O'CLOCK P.M., AT THE CITY HALL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. ----.... The meeting was called to order by the K~yor, J. J. Furlong . Counci1men present: Furlong, Peralta, Scheider CounciLmen absent: Leonis, Levy It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting be suspended. Mot- ion carried. A communication from Clark Roofing & Paint Company, re- questing a permit to operate an office and warehOuse to conduct a roofing and warehouse business at 5600 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried. A communication from George S. Howlett, for a permit to operate a cafeteria in the Studebaker plant at 4530 Loma Vista Avenue, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried. A communic~tion from Office Furniture & Equipment co., for a permit to operate an office furniture and equipment business at 3713 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried. A communication from John Gonzales, requesting a permit to repair boxes at 3182 E. 26th Street, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communication be fnBd, and permit granted. Motion carried. A communication from Perry Bryant, requesting permit to sell five cent pies at Washington-Eljer Company, 2031 E. Vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion oarried. A communication from Mural D. Torrance, requesting a permit to operate a service station at SE corner of Pacific and Fruitland Road, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried. -1- ~~29 A communication from Cantlay & Tanzola, Inc., request- ing permission to haul refuse from their premises at 2835 Santa Fe Avenue, upon and along the public streets of the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta, that the communication be filed, and per.m~t granted. Motion carried. A communication from Central Manufacturing Distriot, Inc., re~uestlng permit to haul non-oombustible refuse from their incinerator on Exchange Avenue near Lama Vista Avenue, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta, that the communioation be filed, and permit granted. Motion carried. The Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta, that same be filed. Motion carried. The Minutes of the Committee on Light, Power, Water, Building and Purchasing as of November 21, 1939, were read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that same stand approved as read. Motion carried. The following Applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: Application 6652: Southern California Water Co., to repair water main at St. Charles Street, 42' north of 45th Street. Application 6653: Bohemian Distributing Co., to pave 5' strip on south side of 49th Street, approximately 750' west of Santa Fe Avenue, to approximately 1040' west of Santa Fe Avenue. Application 6654: Frank Tesky, to oonstruct driveway and sidewalk at southeast corner of Pacific Blvd. and Fruitland Rd. Applioation 6655: Buttress & McClellan, to construct roof drain through curb on south side of Chambers Street, west of Pacific Blvd. Application 6656: Buttress & McClellan Co., to make sewer connection at southwest oorner of Pacific Blvd., and Chambers Street. It was moved by Peralta, secondld by Scheider, that the applications be filed, and permits granted. Motion carried. Demands on the General Fund in the sum of $7,018.63 were read.
