MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD MONDAY, AUGUST 26, 1940, AT THE HOUR
OF THREE O'CLOCK P.M., AT THE CITY HALL
4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order by the Ma.yor, J. J.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Leonis, Peralta, Scheider.
Counoilmen absent: Levy
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the reading
of the Minutes of the meeting of' August 20th, be suspended. Motion
oarried.
ORDINANCE NO. 536. An ordinance prohibiting trespassing
and loitering about certain property in the City of Vernon was read
for second reading.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Ordinance
No. 536 be passed for second reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 536. An ordina.nce prohibiting trespassing
and loitering about certain property in the City of' Vernon was read
for a third and final reading.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Ordinance
No. 536 be adopted. Motion carried by the following vote.

RESOLUTION NO. 1028. A resolution approving BUdget require-
ments of Water Department and Light & Power Department, was read.
It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Peralta that Resolution
No. 1028 be adopted. Motion carried.
A communica.tion from the SafewayStores Inc., requesting
permission to establish a cross walk in front of office door at
1925 E. Ve~non Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed and the permission be granted subject to the
approval of the Police Department as to location of' said cross walk.
Motion carried.
A communication from"J. R. Hayden, Assistant to President of
Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway in reference to Resolution No. 1024,
was read..
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that same be
referred to City Clerk. Motion carried.
A oommunication from Francis Bates and E. Giles, regar4ing
communication of the City of Huntington Park,. in connection with trar~ic
signals at Slauson and Boyle Avenue, was read.
It was moved. by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that co~nicat~
ion be filed and approved subject to the legal opinion of the City
Attorney. Motion carried.

A communioation from B. A. Moeller, regarding oil
refinery fire inspeotions was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seoonded by Scheider, that same
be referred to Fire Commissioner. Motion oarried.
A communication from C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer,
regarding application made by Southern California Ed-ison Co., for
permission to cross L. A. & Salt Lake R. R. Co., property to serve
Fruehauf Tmiter property at Fruitland Road and Boyle Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Soheider, seoonded by Peralta that the
Mayor andC1ty Clerk be instructed to sign easement. Motion oarried.
At this time the Mayor appointed Wayne Johnson of the
Southern.California Edison Co., and Thomas V. Cassidy, City Attorney,
to supplement the committee on the booklet advertising the City of
Vernon.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that meeting
adjourn. Motion carried.
