MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF
TEE CITY COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF VERNON
HELD TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1940, AT THE HOUR
OF THREE O'CLOCK P.M.~ AT THE CITY HALL

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Peralta, Scheider, Levy.
Councilmen absent: Leonis.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the reading
of the Minutes of the meeting of August 26th, be suspended. Motion carried.
Unfinished Business
The City Attoraey reported that there was no legal reason that
he know of whereby the City of Vernon could not enter into an agreement
with the City of Huntington Park in reference to traffic signals on
Slauson and Boyle Avenues.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the report
be flIed, and that the Engineer be instructed to notify the City Of
Huntington Park that the City of Vernon would cooperate in the erecting
and maintenance of traffic signals as per their recent communication.
Motion carried.
A r~port of the Police Department in reference to the
application of Bruno Wollman to conduct a. business ot: metal shearing
at 2149 E. 37th Street, was read. The Police Department recommende.
that the. application be granted.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by. Peralta that the report
be filed and recommendation concurred in and the City Clerk be authorized
to grant permit. Motion carried.
New Business
A communication from Los Angeles Industrial Union Council,
regarding trespass or loitering ordinances, was read.
It was moved.by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communica tion be filed and refe.rred to the City Clerk for reply. Motion
carried.
A report of the Union Oil Company on Los Angeles County
Franchise Ordinance 596N.S., for year ending 6/30/40, together with check
in sum of $10.71, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the report
be filed and check accepted.' Motion carr1ed.
A communication from the Davey Tree Surgery Co., requesting
permit to trim trees on Santa Fe Avenue, Vernon Avenue, ..8th Street,
Downey Road, 26th Street, 37th Street and 28th Street, was read.

It was .moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed and permit granted subject to the Davey Tree
Surgery Co., getting permission from the property owners in front of
whose property the trees are now located. Motion carried.
A report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the same
be filed. Motion carried.
The Minutes of the meeting of the Committee on Light, Power,
Water, Building and Purchasing, as of August 26, 1940, were read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta, that the same
stand approved as read. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval of the
City Engineer, were read.

It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the

It was moved by Levy, seconded.by Scheider, that the demands
be allowed, and warrants drawn for same. Motion carried.
