MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON

HELD TUESDAY, MARCH 18, 1941,AT THE
HOUR OF THREE 0 t CLOCK P. M., AT
THE CITY HALL, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE,
VERNON, CALIFORNIA
The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Furlong, Peralta, and Soheider

At this time the City Clerk announoed that he had bids upon his desk
pursuant to the notioe advertising the same. '
It was moved by Soheider and seoonded by Peralta that the City Clerk
open and read the bids. Motion carried.
The City Clerk then opened the bid of the Gamewell Company and read
same.

It was moyed.by Scheider and seoonded by Peralta that the City Council
aooept the bid of the Gamewell Company for the installation of the additional
fire alarm boxes, et cetera; and that the City Attorney draw a contract
covering the same.. Motion carried.
A communication was read from Francis Bates, City Engineer, regarding
paints used for street marking. .
It was moved by Peralta and seoonded by Soheider that the communication
be filed. Motion oarried.
A oommunioation was read from Los Angeles By-Produots Company, re-
questing a permit to dump and dispose of materials in Sudden Lumber Company
pit on Alameda street south of 25th ~treet. ·
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the communication
be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
A oommunioation was read from the Vernon Industrial Development Associa
tion, requesting an opportunity to examine proposals made b1 Southern Cali-
fornia Gas Company for service of gas to industries prior to any action that
may be taken by the City Counoil.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the communicatio
be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.
A Notioe of tax sale was read, whioh was submitted by H. L. Byram,
County Tax Colleotor of property located on the east side of Santa Fe
Avenue, between 37th Street and Vernon Avenue, and a parcel of land on the
east side of Alameda Street between 38th Street and Vernon Avenue.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Soheider that the notice be
referred to the City Engineer and City clerk. Motion oarried.
A communication wasread from Mr. Joseph Mesmer regarding traffic eondi
tions at 41st street and Alameda Street.
It was mewed by Peralta and seoonded by Scheider that the c~unica-
tion be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
A oommunioa.tion was read from the Los Angeles Police DepartmEll'l t re-
gardihg the neoessity of regulatory devioes at 25th and Alameda street, and
other tntereseotions along Alameda Street, namely, 41st Street, Vernon
Avenue and 55th ~treet.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Soheider that the communica-
tion be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.

Communications were read from the following firms in whic~ they have
requested permission to haul refuse from the fOllowing described addresses:

Southern California Meat Co. 3301 East Vernon Avenue
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Scheider that the communications
be filed and the permits be granted. Motion carried.
A report was read from the Vernon Industrial Development Assooia~on for
the period ending December 31, 1940.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Scheider that the report be
filed. Motion carried.
A report of Mr. C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operations of elec-
trio system by Southern California Edison Company was read for the month of
January, 1941, was read.
It was moved by Scheider and seoonded by Peralta that the report be filed.
Motion oarried.
A report of the Polioe Department was read.
It was moved by Soheider and seoonded by Peralta that the report be file..
Motion oarried.
The Minutes of the meeting of the Committee on Light, Power, Water, Build-
ing, and purchasing of Maroh 4, 1941, were read.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the :Minutes stand
approved as read. Motion oa.rried.

were read:

2041 East 25th Street.

on N/S FDuitland Road, 175 feet EjO Seville Street.

3334 East Slauson Avenue.

It was moved by Soheider and seconded by Peralta that the ap-
plications be filed and the permits granted. Motion carrie4.
Demands in the sum of $96,635.39 were read.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Scheider that the de-
mands be allowed and warrants be drawn. Motion carried.
It was moved by Soheider and seoonded by Peralta that the
meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
