MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD TUESDAY,APRIL 15, 1941, AT THE
HOUR OF THREE O'CLOCK P. M., AT
THE CITY HALL, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE,
VERNON, CALIFORNIA
The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, J. J. Furlong.
Councilmen present: Leonis" Furlong, Peralta, Scheider, and Levy.
Councilmen absent: None.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Peralta that the reading of the
Minutes of the meeting of April 1" 1941, be suspended. Motion carried.
A communication from the County of Los Angeles Agricultural Commis-
sioner was read regarding puncture weed.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Peralta that the communication
be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
A communication from Walts Inc., requesting a permit to operate an
aluminum casting and heat-treating business for processing of air-craft
parts at 5511 Boyle Avenue was read.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and the permit. granted. Motion carried.
A communication was read from William Galloway requesting a permit to
operate a restaurant at 2700 Fruitland Road.
It was moved by Leonis and secondee by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and the permit granted subject to the approval of the Police
Department. Motion carried.
A communication was read from Glass Containers Inc., regarding the
establishing of a twenty-minute parking zone at 3601 Santa Fe Avenue.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be referred to the Police Departmentt Motion carried.
Communica tions were read from the following firms in which they
have requested permission to haul refuse from the following described

It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the communi-

A report was read from C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer on opera-
tions of the electric system by Southern California Edison Company, for
the month of February, 1941.

A report was read from the Police Department.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Scheider that the reportbe

A co.mmunication was read from Franois Bates, City Engineer, regard-
ing a method of allocation of gas taxm.onies.
It was moved by Leonisand seconded by Levy that the report be ap-
proved and the communioation filed. Motion carried.
A report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer was read on franchise
reports of the Southern California Edison Company.
It was moved by Levy and seoonded by Scheider that the report be
filed. Motion oarried.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the City
Engineer make a report to the City Counoil on the cost of lowering Alameda
Street and placing signals thereon. Motion carried.
. The Minu~es of the meeting of the Committee on Light, Power, Water,
Building, and Purchasing of April 1, 1941, were read.
It was moved by Levy and seconded by Scheider that the Minutes be
approved as read. Motion carried.

plications be filed and the permits granted. Motion carried.
Application 7638:
Acme Brewing Company to construct cement concrete curb,
sidewalk and eight-inch A. C. pavement between existing
pavement and curb at 2254 East 49th Street.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Scheider that the ap-
plication be laid over. Motion carried.
Demands on the general fund in the sum of $11,146.27 were read.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the de-
mands be allowed and the warrants be drawn. Motion carried.
It was moved by Leonis and seconded by scheider that the meet-
ing adjourn. Motion carried.
