MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGUIAR MEETING
OF THE' CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD TUESDAY, AUGUST 26, 1941" AT THE HOUR
OF THREE O'CLOCK P.M. AT THE CITY HALL
4505 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA

The Meeting was called to order by the City Clerk, T. J.
Councilmen Present:
Messers, Levy, Peralta,
Scheider, Furlong.
Councilmen Absent:
J.B. Leonis
At this time the Clerk declared that owing to the absence
of the Mayor it would be necessary to elect a Mayor Pro Tem for the
Meeting.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that E. R. Peralta
be elected Mayor Pro Tem. Motion carried.
The Mayor Pro Tem, E. R. Peralta then called the meeting to
order and proceeded with the regular order of business.
It was moved by Levwyjseconded by Scheider that the reading
of the Minutes of the Meeting of August 19, 1941 be approved without
reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 544, an Ordinance of the City of Vernon fixing
the rate of taxes and levying the taxes for the fiscal year beginning
July 1, 1941-42 was read for second reading.
. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that Ordinance No.
544 be passed for second reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 544, an Ordinance of the City 0 f Vernon fixing
the rate of taxes and levying the taxes for the fiscal year beg,inning
July'l, 1941-42 was read for third and finaft reading.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that Ordinance No.
544 be adopted. Motion carried.by t~e following vote:

ABSENT:

Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, requesting
authority to make application to Federal Works Agency for Federal Grant
in the sum of $807,000.00 for improvement of Alameda Street was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Furlong that the communication be
filed. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1070, a resolution of the City Council of the
City of Vernon authorizing and empowering Francis Bates, City Engineer
of the City to make application for and on behalf of the City of Vernon
to the Federal works Agency Public .orks Administration for Grant for
defense public work and to furnish all engineering data or other information
required by the Federal Works Agency, was read.

Moved by Levy, seconded by Furlong that Resolution No.
1070 be adopted.. Motion carried. '
RESOLUTION NO. 1071, a Resolution of the City Council of the
City of Vernon, authorizing Thomas V. Cassidy, City Attorney of the
Ci ty of Vernon to furnish legal information to the Federal Works Agency
Public Works Administration to Support the application of the City of
Vernon in requesting a Grant from said Federal Works Agency, ",as read.
Moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider that Resolution No.
1071 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1072. a Resolution of the City Council of the
City of Vernon declaring that public Interest and necessity requires
that the City of Vernon purchase certain property, was read.
Moved by Scheider, seconded by Furlong that Resolution No.
1072 be adopted. Motion carried.
Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, recommending
acceptance of bid of General Motors Truck and Coach Co., for fUrnish-
ing truck under Specification No. 126 in the sum of $2,293.81 was read.
Moved by Levy, seconded by Sche:tder tha t the communication be
filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer be accepted for the
bid of the General Motors Truck and Coach Co., for the furnishing of the
truck under Specification No. 126, in the sum of $2,293.21, and the
City Attorney directed to draw a contract :tn accordance therewith.

It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider t hat the C~ty
Clerk be authorized and instructed to post Notices of the City's
desire to purchase property within certain portions of the City and
invite proposals therefore. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 545, an Ordinance authorizing and directing
the City Attorney to bring an action in the Superior Court of the
State of California in and for the County of Los Angeles in the name
of the City of Vernon for the condemnation of certain property de-
scribed in this Ordinance was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Furlong that Ordinance No. 545
be adopted. Motion carried by the following vote:

It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Furlong that the

It was moved by Levy, seconded by peralta that the meeting be
adjourned. Motion carried.
