M. AT THE CITY HALL 4305 BANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA ~ The Meeting was called to order by the City Clerk, T.J. Furlong. Councilmen Present: Messers, Levy, Furlong Peralta and J. B. Leonis Councilmen A~ent: Scheider. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Furlong that the Minutes of the Meeting of 1e.:Quember16th, 1941 be approved without reading. Motion oarried. ORDINANCE NO. 546, an Ordinance of the City of Vernon Fixing the bonds on oertain offioers and employees of the City of Vernon was read tor seoond reading. It was moved by Furlong, seoonded by Levy that Ordinanoe No. 546 be passed for second reading. OBDINANCE NO. 546, an Ordinance of the City of Vernon Fixing the bonds on oertain offioers and employees of the City of Vernon was read for third and final reading. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Levy that Ordinance No. 54S'be adopted. RESOLUTION NO. 1080, a Resolution of the City/"Council of the City of Vernon awarding to the Barber-Bridge Drilling Corp. ,Ltd. the oontraot for the drilling of oertain wells within the City of Vernon 'was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Furlong that the Reso;tutlon No. 1080 be adopted. Motion carried. Communication from Franois Bates, City Engineer, recommending that Griffith Company be awarded contract for the improvement of East Vernon Avenue was read. Ittwas moved by Furlong, seoonded by Levy that the communication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, recommending that Griffith Company be awarded the contract for the improvement of Fifty- fifth Street, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Furlong that the communication be approved and filed. Motion carried. ' RESOLUTION NO. 1082, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon awarding to the Griffith Company the contract for.certain:tmprovements to be made in Fifty-fifth Street as per Specification No. 128 was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Furlong that Resolution No.'1082 be adopted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 1083, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon authorizing the employment of Jas. R. Johnston as appraiser in condem- na tion proceedings now pending in the .Superior Court, Case No. 46'7816 was rea4.. It was moved by Levy, seoonded by Furlong that Resolution No.10e3 be adopted. RESOLUTION 10. 1084, a Resolution of the City Council ot the City of Vernon accepting the\Deed from the Flintkote Company, a oorporation was read. Max Meyer requesting permit tooohduct a new and used Truck, ~railer, and Trucking Equipment budiness at 384'7 Santa Fe Ave. was read. Applicant. states that no second hand t rucks will be purchased exoept in the conduct and sa.le of new trucks where used truoks are taken in exchange.. It was moved by Levy, seoonded by Furlong that the communioation be filed and permit granted. Motion ca.rried. Communication from Butane Ltd., requesting change in Ordinanoe pro- hibiting Butane gas installations, was read. It -.as moved by Peralta, seoonded by Levy that the oommunication be referred to the Committee of the Whole. Motion carried. Communication from Gi1mar e Oil Company requesting' permission to store service station building on property located on East 27th Street, east of Santa Fe Ra~ay Tracks, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communioation be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from the Aome iSteel Company regarding parkingoonditions on 49th Street near Paoifio Blvd. was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communication be. referred to the Police Department. Motion oarried. Communication from L.A.Young Spring & Wire Corp., regarding oross walk at 3200 E. Slauson Avenue was read. · It was moved by Peralta, seoonded by Levy that the Communication be referredt to the Police Department. Motion carried. 426 Communication from The Flintkote Company regarding parking conditions on E. 57th street, east of Alameda Street, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the Communication be referred to the Police Department. Motion oarried. . Communication from Advance Saw Works requesting curb be painted, green at 2665 Santa Fe Avenue was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communication be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communications .from the following firms for permits to haul refuse upon and along the public streets of the City of Vernon were read: Walworth Company 2532 East 49th Street Kennedy Name Plate Co. 4509 Pacific Blvd. The Frito Company 5320 Santa Fe Avenue. It was moved by Levy, seoonded by Furlong that the oommunications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. Communication from Edward R. Young regarding condemnation'action between City of Vernon and J. B.Leonis Inc. was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Furlong that the communication be filed and the action of Edward R. Young be approved. Motion carried. The Minutes of the meeting of the Committee On Light, Power~ Water~ Building and Purchasing of September S; 1941 ware read. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Levy that. the same be approved as read. Motion ca.rried. Telephone Co., to 'place 1 pole and anchor and ground brace in E/S Hampton Street, 20 ft. 8/0 . Chambers Street. Approved by City Engineer.
