MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON HELD TUESDAY, OOTOBER
7, 1941, ,AT THE HOUR OF THREE

mhe Meeting was called to order by Mayor J.B.Leonis.
Councilmen Present:
Messers, Leonis, Furlong,
Peralta and Scheider.
Councilmen Absent:
Richlilrd Levy.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider that the Minutes
of the Meeting of September 23, be approved without' reading. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced that he bad on his
desk bids pursuant to notice advertising for same for the erection of
certain'buildings on the City's Housing Project.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Furlong that the city
clerk open and read the bids. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk opened and read the bids from
the following firms:
Vern R. Huck,Don S. Ely, Byron E. Davis, Henry AuerbaCh,
Kemp Bros., Wm. O. Gray",Eric FIOd.1ne, Edward Paul Dentze1, Herbert Ketell,
George Krivic, Harry M. Westfall, ,Howard lie Allen, R. H. Pur.
It was moved by Furlong, seco:n4edby Scheider that .11bJ.d.s

Council on October 9, 1941. Motion carried.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider that when this
meeting adjourn it adjourn to October 9, 1941 at three (3) O'clock
P.M. Motion carried.
Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, requesting
authority to employ Mr. H. G. Rogers, as Inspector at a salary of
$190.00 per month, was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider tha~ the
communication be filed and that H. G. Rogers be employed by the City
as Inspector'at a salary of $190.00 to continue at the pleasure ,of the
City Council. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer recommeding the
acceptance of the truck purchased from General Motors Truck &: Coacb Co.
was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded,by Scheider that the
communication of the City Engineer be filed ~nd his reeommendat~on

It'was moved by Furlong, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed and referred to the Police Department with
power to act. Motion oarried.
Communication from Byron Jackson Co., requesting safety
walk across Vernon Avenue, between Santa Fe Avenue and Alameda Street
was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seoonded by Soheider that the same
be referred to the Pofuioe Department. Motion oarried.
Communication from J. R. MSlony Company, in regard to
insurance on Municipal Housing Units was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Peralta that the
oommunioation be filed and the servioe acoepted without cost to
the city. Motion carried.
Communication from the United Aircraft Produots Inc., 2929 "
Santa Fe Avenue, requesting that the DeLuxe Box Lunch and Catering Co., .
be granted permission to dispense hot foods to their employees was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider'that the
communication be referred to the committee of the whole. Motion oarried.
Communication from Vernon Meat Packing Co., requesting permit
to conduot a wholesale meat business at 3049 E. Vernon Avenue was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seoonded'by Peralta the the communication
be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from K. Hamaji, 1940 W. El Segundo Blvd.,
Los Angeles, requesting permit to oonduct'a nursery can business on
E. 26th Street, west of Los Angeles River, (The operation will consist
of straightening, cleaning, and coating with tar for nursery use.) was

permit to operate restaurant formerly oonducted by Clara Lawson and
Opal Steele, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion
Communication from C. Parsons requesting permit to sell box
lunches within the oity was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Peralta that the
communioation be ,filed and the matter taken under advisement. Motion
oarried.
The Minutes of. the meeting of the Committee on Light, Power,
Water, Building and Purohasing of September 23, 1941 were read.
