MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF VERNON HELD TUESDAY, NOVEMBER
18TH, 1941, AT THE HOUR OF THREE
O'CLOCK P. M. AT THE CITY HALL

CALIFORNIA
The Meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.
Councilmen Present:
Messers: Leonis, Furlong
Scheider, Pera~ta.
Richard Levy.
Councilmen Absent:
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Peralta that the Minutes of
the previous meeting be approved without reading. Motion carried.
Communication from Consolidated Rock Products Co., requesting
permission to install an additional pump over gasoline tank on premises
located at 2730 So. Alameda StJ:'eet. Tank'and pump are situated 600 feet
east of Alameda Street, was read.
It wa$ moved by Furlong, seconded by Peralta that the same be
filed and referred to the Fire Chief. Motion carried.
Communication from Tatman & Mauty requesting permit to operate
service station at 4922 S. Soto Street was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider that the communication
be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Paul Hill requesting permit to hang advertisi~
banner across Downey Road and Vernon Avenue, advertising 16th Annual Great
Western Rodeo to be held in connection with the Livestock Show from November
22nd to December 8th, 1941, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Pacifi~ Gear Works, requesting additional street
lighting at 2053 E. 38th Street was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and referred to the Consulting Electrical Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from ~enith Supply Co., requesting curb be painted red
at 2335 E. 38th Street, was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from I. Ybarra requesting permit to haul refuse
from premises of 3837 Santa Fe Avenue was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and permitcgranted. Motion carried.
Communication from Atlas Packing Co., requesting permit to haul
refuse from premises of 3501 E. Vernon Avenue was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider that the communication
be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.

Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, requesting
authority .to employ Mr. T. F. Evans, as Engineering Draftsman at a
salary of $180.00 per month to take the place of Mr. A. E. Bennett,
resigned, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Furlong that the
communication be filed and the recommendation of the Engineer be approved.
Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1089, a Resolution of the City Council of the
City of Vernon authorizi~ the employment of Mr. T. F. Evans as Engineering
Draftsman at a salary of ~180.00 per month was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Furlong that Resolution
No. 1089 be adopted.
Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, requesting
authority to employ Mr. Jack Griffin as Engineering Clerk, at a salary
of $120.00 per month to take the place of Mr. Geo. Schley, resigned, was
read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Furlong that the comrnunic ation
be filed and the recommendation of the Engineer be approved. Motion carrie4.
RESOLUTION NO. 1090, a Resolution of the City Council of the
City of Vernon authorizing the employment of Mr. Jack Griffin as Engire ering
Clerk at a salary of $120.00 per month was read.
.It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Furlong that Resolution
No. 1090.be adopted.

connection at 5965 Alcoa Ave.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider that
the applications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the Standard Pipe and Supply Co., requestlng
a 10 foot red zone at 2322 E. Vernon Ave., was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider that the communi-
cation be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.

Report of the Committee on Light, Power, Water, Building
and Purchasing of November 4, 1941 was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Furlong that the rep<%' t
of the Committee be approved as, read. Motion carried.
Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operations
of electric system by Southern California Edison Co., for the month of
September, 1941 was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Scheider that the report
be approved and filed. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department on the application of the
Industrial Equipment Co., requesting permit to operate and conduct a
new and used machinery business at 4441 Santa Fe Avenue. Police Department
recommends permit be granted, subject to certain Fire and Police regulations.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Furlong that the report
of the Police Department be filed and recommendation concurred in and
that permit be issued. Motion carried.
