MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, OF THE CITY
OF VERNON HELD TUESDAY # DECEMBER

The Meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.

It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Peralta that the Minutes
of the previous meeting be approved withoutzead1ng.Mot1on carried.
Communication from Max Bernbaum." Attorney at Law" submitting
claim in behalf of Luer Packing Company for allowance of damages due to
impure water from the City's Water System in the sum. of $241.96, was read.
It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that the claim
be denied and referred to the City Attorney to answer same and that the
entire matter be referred to the City Attorney and City Engineer. Motion
carried.
Communication from the City Engineer in regard to claim of
Luer Packing Company was read.
It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that the
communication be filed and referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.
Communication from the Vernon Industrial Development Association,
together with letter from Guthrie & Darling and two partial releases
covering additions" betterments, alterations and improvements to the City's
Electrical System" was read. It was moved by Furlong and seconded by
Peralta that the communication be filed and referred to the City Attorney.
Motion carried.
Communication from Everett B. Thomas, requesting the closing
and vacating of Bickett Street from 54th Street south to Union Pacific
Railroad tracks" was read.
It was moved by ~cheider and seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed and referred to the City Engineer for checking and
report. Motion carried.
Report of the Fire Department on the application of the
Consolidated Rock Products Co." requesting permit to install second pump
over gasoline tank 600 feet east of Alameda Street. The Fire Department
recommends that the application be denied.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the report
of the Fire Department be filed and the recommendation concurred in.
Motion carried.
Request of Highway Traffic Advisory Committee to War Department,
requesting certain information on City trucks and equipment for emergency
Government operations, was read.

It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Furlong that the
communication be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Industrial Equipment CompanYI requesting permit
to hold open house on December 51 1941, at 4441 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Furlong that the
communication be filed and referred to the Chief of Police. Motion carried.
Communication from the Consolidated Rock Products Co., submitting
an alternate petition for permit to install gasoline pump at 2730 Alameda
Street, was read.
It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that the
communication be filed and referred to the Fire Chief for investigation
and report. Motion carried.
Communication from the Great Western Live Stock Show, requesting
permit to conduct live stock show from December 2nd to 7th, inclusive. 19411
was read.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the Union Ice Company for permit to sell and
deliver ice within the City was read.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from C. E. MartinI requesting permit to operate
an electric welding Shop at 2296 E. 48th Streetl was read.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from S. R. Gerberl 150 E. 7lst Street, requesting
permit and license to sell mahogany sewing kits within the City.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Furlong that the
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
, Report of the Committee on Light, Power, Waterl Building and
PurchaDg, of November 18, 1941, was read.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Furlong that the Report
of the Committee be approved as read. Motion carried.
Communications from the following firms for permits to haul refuse
upon and along the public streets of,the City of Vernonl were read:
Refractories Corp., Wilshire Oil Co., and Western Belting &; Equipment Co.
It was moved by Peralta and seconded by Scheider that the
communications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
Communication from H. C. Witherspoon, Inc., requesting permit to
construct a curb 150 feet long on the north side of building along 49th St.,
also to paint proposed curb green and red, was read.
It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that the
communication be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that same be
filed. Motion carried.

It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that said
Resolution No. 10.91 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 10.92, a Resolution authorizing the withdrawal
of certain funds for the purchase of property for the CitYjl was read.
It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that said
Resolution 10.92 be adopted.

There being no further business to come before the Council at this
time, it was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that the meeting
