19420120 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD TUESDAY" JANUARY 20TH~ 1942~ AT THE HOUR OF THREE O'CLOCK P. M." AT THE CITY HALL" 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE" VERNON" CALIFORNIA. The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. Councilmen Present: Messrs. Leonis, Furlong, Scheider, Peralta, Levy. Councilmen Absent: None. It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that the Minutes of the previous meeting be approved without reading. Motion carried. Communication from City Engineer" recommending that salary of Henry Vanden Bossche, Field Engineer, be increased from One Hundred Sixty-Five ($165.00) Dollars per month to One Hundred Eighty-Five ($185.00) Dollars per month, beginning January 16, 1942" was read. It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that the communi. cation be filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer concurred in. Motion carried. Communication from Francis Bates" City Engineer, submitting bids from Albambra Foundry and Rich Steel Company for scrap iron, and recommending that bid of Alhambra Foundry be accepted" at bid of Twenty ($20.00) Dollars per ton for scrap iron and Eighteen ($18.00) Dollars per ton for scrap steel, was read. It was moved 'by Scheider and seconded 'by Peralta that the c01ml1Uni- cation be filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer concurred in. Motion carried. Communication from City Engineer, recommending a forty-day extension of t1me"from January 15" 1942, to H. M. Westfall" for completion of municipal houses, was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Furlong that the communication be filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer concurred in. Motion carried. Communication from Southern California Gas Company" requesting that pipe line maps submitted by them be kept confidential during war period, was read. It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the communi- cation be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Given Machinery Company requesting permit to conduct and operate a retail machinery business at 3855 Santa Fe Avenue" was read. It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Peralta that the commUni- cation be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Report of General Petroleum Corp., on Los Angeles County Franchise 781 (NS) for period ending December 31,1941" was read.. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Peralta that the communication be filed. Motion carried. Report of Union Oil Company on Los Angeles County Franchise 596 (NS) for period ending December 31, 1941" was read. It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Furlong that the report be 5 filed. Motion carried. Communications tromthe following firms tor permits to haul refuse from their respective premises upon and along the public streets ot the City of Vernon were read: Cook Heat Treating Company, C. E. Duggan &: Son, Harron, Rickard &: McCone Company, Associated Oil Company, Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., and Sateway Stores, Inc. It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the communi- cations be tiled and peF.mits granted. Motion carried. Report ot the Consulting Electrical Engineer tor November, 1941 was read. It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the report be 'tiled. Motion carried. Minutes of the meeting ot the Committee on Light, Power, Water, Buil~ and Purchasing of January 6th, 1942 were read. . It was moved by Furlong and seconded by Scheider that the Minutes of the Committee be approved as read. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Scheider tbat said report be filed. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 548, an ordinance providing tor black-outs, was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Furlong that said Ordinance. No. 548 be adopted. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 549, an ordinance proclaiming rules and regulations pertaining to air-ra~s in[ black-outs, was read. It was moved by Levy and seconded by Furlong that said Ordinance No. 549, be adopted. Motion carried.
