M. AT THE CITY BALL, 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, Vernon, Cal. The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis Councilmen Present: Messrs. Leonis, Scheider and Peralta Councilmen .i.Absent: Messrs. Levy and Poxon It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the Minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. Communication from City Engineer regarding claim against Jean Baptiste Dunate for damages against E. 26th Street bridge in the amount of $273.00, and recommending a settlement in the sum of $137.50 was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the commu- nication be filed and the recommendation concurred in. Motion carried. Communication from A. K. Forbes requesting a leave of absence as fireman due to being inducted into the armed services, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the com- munication be filed and leave granted. Motion carried. Communication from Great Western Live Stock Show advising that the Live Stock Show shall be held December lst to 4th inclusive on the premises of the Stock Yards Company, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the commu- nication be filed. Motion carried. Circular letter from League of California Municipalities together with uniform ordinance in connection with dim-out proclamation, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communi- cation be filed and referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried. Communication from H. L. Harvill :requesting permit to conduct a casting and die business at 2223 E. 37th Street, was read. It was moved by Peralta, Scheider that the eommunication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Aircraft Containers Co., requesting permit to conduct business at 2124 E. 51st Street, was read. . It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the communi- cation be filed and permit granted. Motion car~ied. Communication from GOod Humor Ice Cream Co., requesting permit to sell ice cream in Central ManufactUring District, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communi- cation be filed and refe;rred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Vernon City School requesting loading zone be repainted in front of school on East Vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the communi- cation be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. :118 Communication from Douglas Aircraft Company, Inc., requesting that curbs be painted red at 5201 Santa Fe Avenue, and cross-walk be painted at 53rd & Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the commu- nication be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Axelson Manufacturing Co., requesting that two traffic lanes be painted on Randolph Street, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the commu- nication be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Wayne Pump Co., requesting 20 minute parking zone be painted on curb on north side of 52nd Street, between Santa Fe Avenue and driveway, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that. the commu- nication be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Harvill Aircraft Die Casting Corp., request- 'ing permit to haul refuse from premises at 2344 E. 38th Street, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the commu-,. nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. The report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the same be filed. Motion carried. It. . Communication from Haskins & Sells regarding lease agreement between City of Vernon and Southern California Edison Co., and inspection of accounts of the Edison Company, was read. It was moved by Scheiaer, seconded by Peralta that the same be .re~erred to the City Clerk, Auditor and City Electrical Engineer. Motion carried. read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the commu- nication be filed. Motion carried. . ORDINANCE No. 556, An ordinance establishing Police Auxiliary Force and providing for its use and control, and penalties for violation thereof, wa's read for first .reading. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Ordinance .No. 556, be passed for first reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO., 557, an ordinance relating to restricted light- ing, was read for first reading. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Ordinance No. 557 be passed for first reading.
