19430601 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COP-NCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON. HELD ON TUESDAY, JUNE 1st. 1943, AT THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY HALL, 4305 .anta Fe Avenue, VERNON CALIFOaNIA, at 3:00 P.M. COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Messrs. Levy, Scheider, Peralta and Leonis COUNC!LMEN ABSENT: Poxon. The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Levy that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. Unfinished busines Communication from Harman Process Company requesting permission to park a house trailer on lot at 2113 E. 37th Street, having been laid over from previous meeting, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that permission be grantea for the duration to park a trailer house in rear of 2113 East 37th Street. Motion carried. Report of the Fire Chief on building application of O.K. Union Sawdust Inc. 2300 E. 38th Street, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the report be filed and taken under advisement. Motion carried. New business Communication from City Engineer reque~ting authority to employ Jos- eph Scimonetto as street sweeper at the rate of :jj>105.00 per month, effective June 1, 1943, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica~on be filed and the request granted. Motion carried. Communication from War Production Board, Office of Rubber Director in regard to applic~on of Wilshire Oil Company to lease pipe line to U. S. Rubber aeserve Company and Southern California Gas Co. was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Nathan S. Colen & Son, requesting a permit to operate and conduct a scrap iron and metal plant near East 26th Street and Downey road, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica- tion be filed and request denied. Motion carried. Communication from Los Angeles Bureau of Municipal Research, offer- ing an authoritative survey of taxable property in Vernon, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica- tion be filed for future reference. Motion carried. Communication from O. K. -Union Inc. regarding the reconstruction of buimdings damaged by fire at 2300 E. 38th Street, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communication be filed and request taken under advisement. Motion carried. :197 Communicat~on from Southern California Telephone Co. together With check in sum of i14,026.87 as payment of 2% of gross annual receipts for period ending April 22, 1943, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communi- cation be filed and check accepted. Motion carried. Communication from Mission Dry Corp. requesting curb painting at 5001 So. Soto Street, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communication be filed and refer~ed to the Police Department. Motion carried. Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer on operation of e1ee- tric system by Southern Ualifornia Edison Co. for month of March, 1943, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Sampson Advertising Company was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the communication be taken under advisement. Motion carried. Letter of commendation from the Universal Die Casting Company in reference to the excellent work done by the Fire and Police Departments at a recent fire, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the same be filed. Motion carried. Report of the Committee of Light, Power, Water, Street, Building and Purchasing was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the report be approved. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Scheider and seconded by Peralta that the report be filed. Motion carried. Gilmore Oil Co. to construct driveway in Els E. 27th St., 420Ft. E/O Santa Fe Avenue. Whiting Mead Co. to make sewer connection at 2263 E. Vernon Ave., Poulson & Nardon to construct driveway inS/S Leonls Blvd. 30 to 60 ft. E/O Santa Fe Railway R/W. 1-98 2.
