MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON~ HELD
ON TUESDAY~ JUNE 15th, 1943, AT TEE OFFICE
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY HALL, 4305 Santa
FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA, AT 3:00 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the minutes of
the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried.
Communication from Griffith Company requesting a 60 day extension
from June 29, .1943 for completion of Alcoa Avenue improvement, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and the extension granted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1206, a resolution granting the Griffith Company a
sixty-day extension of time for the comp1etionof Alcoa Avenue improvement
in the City of Vernon was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Resolution
No.m206 be adopted. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer recommending the acceptance
of catain work completed by Layne & Bower Corporation under Specification
No. 130 was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and recommendation concurred in. Motion carried.
Communication from Layne & Bower Corporation requesting an ex-
tention of time to June 11, 1943 for the completion of certain work on
250 house power pump and motor was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be riled and the request granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer recommending that an exten-
sion of time be given to Layne & Bowler Corporation to June 11, 1943 for
the completion of certain work under their contract, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and the request concurred in. Motion carried.
Communication from the Los Angeles Railway Corporation, ~ogether
with application fDr franchise on Santa Fe Avenue and copy of notice of
sale of Electric Street Railway Franchise, was read.

It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be received and filed and referred to the City Engineer and City Attor-
ney. Motion carried.
Communication from Reese L. Milner in regards to a sign to be
erected in the vicinityof Soto Street and Fruitland Road, was read.
It was moved by Sch~ider, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be laid over until a meeting of the fUll board. Motion carried.

Communication from Abegg & Reinhold Company expressing apprecia-
tion for the excellent work performed by the Fire Department at a fire on
their property, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communi-
cation be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Stauffer Chemical Company in answer to letter
regarding complaint of excessive fume conditbns, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from David Contreras, 2206 Maple Avenue, Los
Angeles, requesting permit to sell vegetables and fruit, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Klassen Company, requesting permit to dispense
food and refreshments to employees, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the communica-
tion be filed and permit granted, subject to the approval of the Police
Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Pioneer Flintkote Company requesting boule-
vard stop signs to be placed on the north and south sides of Alameda
Street at the 55th street intersection, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and referred ~o the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Globe Sanitary SupplyCompany regarding tree
. on old city hall premises, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Attorney regarding Ordinance No. 599,
was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be received and filed. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1202, a resolution expressing the opinion of the
CityAttorney as to Ordinance No. 599, was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Resolution
No. 1202 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1203, a resolution extending time for Layne &
Bowler Corpo~ation to furnish deep well turbine pump and appurtenances
as per their contract, was read.
, It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Resolution
No. 1203 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION No. 1204, a resolution accepting the deep well tur-
bine pump from Layne & Bowler Corporation under Specification No. 130
was.read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that Resolution
No. 1204 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1205, a resolution autho~ing payment of $1153.60
to Hersey Meter Manufacturing Company, was read.

No. 1205 be adopted. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE No. 564, an Ordinance consenting to lease made between
Wilshire Oil Company and Rubber Reserve Company in re: Franchise Ordinance
No. 420, was read for first reading.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that Ordinance No.
564 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
Communication from Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors was
read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and referred to the City Engineer and City attorney for reply.
Motion carried.
The Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the Report be
filed. Motion carried.
Report o~ the Committee of Light, Power, Water, Street, Building
and Purchasing was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the report be
filed. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval of the City
Engineer, were read:
APPLICATION9340 Un~ted States Rubber Reserve Co. (Wilshire Oil) to
repair 8" oil line in N/S 26th street.
APPLICATION 9345 United States Rubber Reserve Co. (Wilshire Oil) to exca-
vate test holes for inspection of 8" oil line in E. 26th
street.
APPLICATION 9382 Harman Process Co. to make sewer connection E 2113 E.
37th Street.
APPLICATION 9383 Southern California Edison Co. to install 1 anchor and
40 ft. pole in E. and W. side of Soto Street, 675 ft. S/O
26th Street.
APPLICATION 9384 General Metals Corp. to make sewer connection at 5701
So. Boyle Avenue.
APPLICATION 9385 Union Carbide & Carbon Co. to pave shoulder area with 8"
