MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD ON TUESDAY, July 6, 1943, AT THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY HALL, 4305 SANTAT FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA, AT 3:00 P. M. COUNCILMEN PRESEBT: COUMC ILMEN ABSENT: Messrs. Levy, Scheider, Peralta and Leonis Poxon The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. 1:t was ; moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the minutes of the' previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. ORDINANCE No. 564, an Ordinance consenting to the lease made- between Wilshire Oil Company, Inc., and the Rubber Reserve Company, by its agent,Southern California Gas Company, was read for second reading. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta, that Ordinance No. 564 be passed for second reading. Motion carried. ORDINANCE no. 564~ an Ordinance consenting to the lease made between Wilshire. Oil Company, Ihc., and the robber Reserve Company, byr its agent, Southern California Gas Company, was read for third and final read ing . It was moved by Scheider::,- seconded by Peralta that Ordinance No. 564 be adopted. Kotion carried by the following vote: AYES: LEVY, S'C'BEIDER, LEmHS AND PERALTA NOES: None ABSENT: Poxon Communication from Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County together with resolution declaring Slauson Avenue within the City of Vernon, to be part of the County System of Highways and requesting consent to its improvement by the County, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the commu- nication be filed and referred to the City Engineer and City Attorney, Motion carried. Communication from Carl A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, to- gether with check from Southern California Edison Co., in the amount of $45,376.63 representing 2% of gross receipts from May 30, 1942 to May 29, ::e43, was read. I t was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the commu- nication be filed and check accepted. Motion carried. Report of Union Oil Company on Los Angeles County Franchise 596 N.S. for period ending June 30, 1943, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Scheider that the report be received and filed. Motion carried. Communication from Carl A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, sub- ,I i. . 206 mitting an extension rider by Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railway Co. cover- ingthe operation and maintenance of a 7,OOOV, 3-wlrepower line along the Railway Company's right-of-way between 50th Street and Fruitland Road, recooommending the approval by the City Council, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the commu- nication and recommendation be 'filed and referred to the City Engineer and City Attorney. Motion carried. Communication from Hoaace S. Kenyon, Jr., Colonel, Air Corps, requesting installation of fire alarm box in front of main gate of Bethlehem Steel Company ,was read. It was moved by SCheider, seconded by Peralta that the communi- cation be filed and referred to the Fire Chief for recommendation and report. Motion carrfed. Report of Carl A. Heinze on operation of electric system by the Southern California Edison Co. for month of April,1943, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Poulsen & Mardon Inc., requesting a pedestrian cross walk in front of factory building on Leonis Boulevard, waS read. It was moved by Scheider, secohded by Peralta that the communica- tion be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from.Vernon Lightning Blueprint Co. requesting curb painting at 5300 Santa Fe Avenu~ was read. It was moved by Scheider, secohded by Peralta that the communica- tion be filed and referred to the Police Department-. Motion carried. Communications from the following firms for permission to haul refuse upon and along the streets of the City of Vernon, were read: Vernon Kilns, Norris Stamping and Manufacturing Co. and Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. ' Copy of an unsigned communication to the Board of Directors of Sanitation District No.2 regarding a certain contract between the City of Los AngelSs and the District, was read. It was moved by SCheider, seconded by Levy that the communicatiop be filed. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer, correcting the time of completion of certain work by Layne & Bowler Co. to June 10, 1343, was read. It was moved by SCheider, seconded by Peralta that the communica- tion be filed. Motion carried. Report of the Committee on light, Power, Water, Street, Building and Purchasing, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that the report be approved and filed. Motion carried. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider carried. Motion that theReport be filed. ORDINANCE No. 565, an ordinance regulating traffic upon the streets of the City of Vernon was read for first reading. It was moved by LeVY, seconded by Scheider that Ordinance No. 565 be passed for first reading. Motion carried. RESOLUTION No. 1206, A Resolution extending time for completion of work on Alcoa Avenue, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that Resolution No. 1206 be adopted. Motion carried. 3. 208 RESOLUTION NO. 1207, a Resolution extending time for Layne & Bowler to furnish deep well turbine pump and appurtenances, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Peralta that resolution No. 1207 be adopted. Motion carried. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the Finance Committee and the City Attorney prepare a Resolution fixing the salaries of certain employees of the various departments of the City, and present same at the next meeting, to take effect July 1, 1943. Motion carried.
