COUNCILMEN ABSENT: The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that tae minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. Communication from Great Western LiveStock Show regarding live stock show to be held November 27th to December 3rd, 1943, inclusive at the Los Angeles Union Stock Yards, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Poxon that the communication be filed and referred to the City Attorney to communicate with the appli- cant to ascertain if they are doing business within the city of Vernon. Motion carried. Communication from Harry E. Carp requesting permit to oonduot a scrap; iron and metal business at 2323 E. 27th Street, was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Poxon that the communica- tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.' Communication from C. W. Lain requesting permit to~operate a canteen to be operated at Harvill Corporation, 2344 E. 38th ~treet was read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Poxon that the communica- tion be filed and approved, subject to the approval of the Police Depart- mente Motion carried. Circular letter from the State of California, Department of Pub- lic Health, regarding annual meeting of Health Officers, to be held in Sacramento, on October 19th to 21st , inclusive" 1943, WAS read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Scheider that the same be approved. Motion carried. Communication from E. J. Stanton & Son requesting curb paint- ing in fron of office at 2050 E. 38th Street, was read. - It was moved by Levy, seconded by Poxon t l:B t the communication be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Palmer Electric Manufacturing Co. requesting curb painting at 218l E. 25th Street, was read. It was moved by Levy, seconded by Poxon that the same be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Nox-Weed N~nufacturing Co. reques~ing permit to manufacture a weed control formula, at 3257 E. Slauson Avenue, was Read. It was moved by Scheider, seconded by Poxon that the communica- tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Swift & Co. requesting permit tohaul refuse from premises at 3750 Jewel Avenue, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Scheider that the communica- tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. 239: It was moved by Levy, seconded by Scheider that Haskins and Sells be employed to bring the city's Light and Power Department books up to date and to continue the work required until further order of the City Council.
