MINUTES OF THE REGUIAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COu~CIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON. HELD
ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd, 1943, AT 3:00
O'CLOCK P. M. AT THE OFFICE OF THE CITY
COUNCIL, CITY HALL, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE
VERNON, CALIFORNIA
Coundlmen present:
Messrs. Leonis, Levy and Peralta
Messrs. Scheider and Poxon.
Councilmen absent:
The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the minutes of
the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer requesting authority to
employ John Lechenet as truck ~river for street department at the rate
of $7.00 per day, effective November 3, 1943, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and the engineer be instructed to employ John Lechenet
as truck driver in the street department at a salary of $7.00 per day.
Motion carried.
Communic.atlon from the City Engineer regarding construction
of derrick by Byron,Jackson Co., was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communi-
cation be filed and permit granted upon the filing by Byron, Jackson
Co., of aa letter in which they agree to pay for all damages caused
to the city's or other property arising from the use and operation of
the equipment used in connection with their application, said appli-
cation to be approved by the City Attorney. Motion carried.
Communication from the State of California Department of
public Health giving notice of revocation of permits to dispose sewage
of Vernon into sewer system of the City of Los Angeles, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communica-
tion be filed and referred to the City Attorney and to E. R. Young
Special Council. Motion carried.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that E.R. Young be
employed to assist the CityAttorney in whatever may be necessary to do
in reference to the communication from the State Department of Public
Health, he to receive reasonable compensation for his services. J.Ilotion

Communication from Citizens Sewage Disposal League regarding
sewage disposal, was read.

Communication from the Great Western Live Stock Show request-
ing permit to conduct a stock show on property of the Los Angeles Union
Stock Yards November 27th to December 3rd, 1943, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from S. C. Smith regarding the handling of
Christmas trees for employees of the Aluminum Company, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and approved. Motion carried.

Comm~ication from Whiting Mead Go. regarding the painting of
a street crossing near the intersection of St. Charles Street and Ver-
non Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the same be
filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Warman Steel Casting Co. requesting the
painting of a white line in center of Slauson Avenue between Boyle Ave -
nue and Downey Road was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and referred to the City Attorney for reply. Motion car~d.
Communication from Weyler Transportation Co. requesting the
painting of curb red opposite their place of business at 1938 Bast Ver-
non Avenue, also requesting that fire alarm box 189 located at Vernon
and Hawthorne Avenue be removed, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and referred to the Police and Fire Departments. Motion
carried.
Communication from the Western Belting & Equipment Co. request-
ing curb painting at 2600 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Levy, Seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be referred to the Police Department with power to act. Motion
carried.
Communications from the following firms for permits to haul
refuse from their places of business along and upon the streets of the
City of Vernon, were read: Paramount Manufacturing Co.,E. K. Wood
Lumber Co., Pioneer-Flintkote Co. and Byron Jackson Co.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communica-
tions be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer together with certified
copy of Decision No. ,36670 rendered by California State Railroad Com-
mission granting to.Santa Fe Railroad Company the right to construct
a connecting track bet~een their side track No. 4 and 6 at Hobart
Station, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed. Motion carried.
