The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the minutes of
the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried.
Communucation from the ~ity Engineer regarding request of Board
of Police Commissioners, City of Los Angeles, for the placing of boule-
vard stops in Alameda Streetz Vernon Avenue and 38th Street, was read.
It waS moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be filed and referred to the City Attorney. 'otion carried.
Communication from th~ City Engineer regarding installation
of well pump at Downey Road and Eruitland Avenue for direct emergency co-
nnection with City mains requiring installation of closed sand-trap
capable of sustaining the main line pressure, was read, wherein the Pacific
Iron & Steel Company presented a bid of $973.00 and the Southwest Welding
& Manufacturing Co. presented a bid of $1317.00 and the City Engineer
requested authority to place order with Pacific Iron & Steel Co. at the
price of $973.00.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communica-
tions be filed and the request of the City Engineer be concurred in and
the bid of Pacific Iron & Steel Co. at the price of $973.00 be accepted.
Motion carried.
Report of General Petroleum Corp. on franchise Ordinances 80,
152, 299 and 532 together with check in the sum of $64.13 for period ending
October 31, 1943, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the report be
filed. Motion carried.
Communication from California Cotton Oil ~orp. requesting permit
to construct pipe line and swivel loading spout in parkway area for loading
of trueks and trailers at 2301 E. 52nd Street, waS read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from Byron ltackson Co. requesting permit to operate
canteens in their shops located at 2301 E. Vernon avenue, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communication
be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Steel and Chemical ~o. 232i West 37th Street,
requesting information on amount due for license to handle salvage metals
on City of Los Angeles Municipal Incinerator property located at 2640 E. 26h
Street, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communication
be filed and referred to the Committee of the Whole. Motion carried.

Communication of Silmo Chemical Corp. requesting permit to oper-
ate a plant manufacturing and Blending Vitamin A and D feeding products
for animal. feed industry in territory at intersection of Leonis SIva.
and Boyle Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communication
be filed and permit denied. Motion carried.
Communicatons from Whiting-Mead Company, R. A. Reed Electrie Co.,
and L. Kaufman Co. requesting permits to haul refuse !'rom their premises
upon and along the streets of the City of Vernon, were read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tions be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
Communication from California Tree Service requesting permit to
trim trees along public streets adjacent to the lines of the Southern.
Calif~ia Edison Co, was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the communica-
tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Report of the Committee on Light, Power, Water, Street, Build-
ing and Purchasing was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the Report be
filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Aluminum Company of America, requesting that
a pedestrian cross walk be painted at intersection of Slauson and Alcoa
Avenues and at the intersection of Fruitland Road and Alcoa Avenue, was read
It was moved by Peralta seconded by Levy, that the communica-
tion be filed and referred to the ~olice Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Wilshire Oil Co. requesting that No parking
zones be painted on each side of west gate entrance on E. 27th ~t. was
read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Dahlstrom Company requesting that water pen-
alty charge on October 1943 bill be waived, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that the communication
be filed and the request denied. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that the report be
filed. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE No. 567, An Ordinance of int~ntion to close up,
vacate and abandon certain portions of East 26th Street, was read for
first reading.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Levy that Ordinance No.
567 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that E. R. Young
be employed to assist the City Attorney in the sewer matter, wherein the
State Board of Health is suing the C~y of Vernon and several of its
officials, and that he be " allowed a reasonable compensation for his
services. Motion carried.

Resolution No. 1235, a Resolution accepting deed from William
Carter, Jr. was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that Resolution No.
1235 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION No. 1236, a Resolution consel1ting to and approving
action of the Board of Supervisors ofe,Los Angeles County in adopting a
resolution in declaring a portion of Washington Blvd. a party of the County
System of Highways, was read.
It was moved by Levy, seconded by Peralta that Resolution No.
1236 be adopted. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval of the City
Engineer, were read:

Aluminum Company to construct 3 downspouts undersidewalk
and through curb at 6151 Alcoa Avenue.
Southern California Gas Co. to prospect for leaks in gas
main in E/S Santa Fe Avenue between Fruitland Road and
57th Street.
