The meeting was called t.o order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Poxon that the minutes of
the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 569, an Ordinance amending section 3.1,Zone 1 for
Slaughter Packing Houses, and Section 3.2 Zone 2 for Stock, Feed and Sales
Yards, was read for first reading.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that Ordinance No.
569 be passed for first reading, Motion carried.

ORDINANCE NO. 570, an Ordinance regulating the use and maintenance
of surface tanks or containers, was read for first reading.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that Ordinance No.
570 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer recommending acceptance of
deepwell turbine pump installed by Layne & Bowler under Specification 137,
was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the communica-
tion be filed. Motion carried.
Communication fro~ Layne & Bowler requesting extension of tfm&
from February 15 to March 3, 1944 for completion of installation of pump
. under contract and Specirications No. 137, communication from the City Engi&
eer recommending said request be granted attached, was read.
It was mOlT ed by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge that the communic-
ationbe filed and request gran~ed.. Motion carried.
Communication from City Engineer,on request by Axelson Mfg. Co.
for installtion of street light at Northeast corner of Randolph St. and Boyle
Ave. recommending that he be authorized to order Edison Co. to place bracket
light of 4000 lumens on power pole at location indicated on attached :prin~,
was read. The Edison Co. will install and maintain at total cost of '34.08
per year. Axelson Mfg. Co. advise if necessary they will assume yearly charge.
It was moved by Peralt8., seconded by Poxon that the communication
be filed and request granted. Axelson Co. tp pay costs of maintenance.
Motion carried.
Communication with Resolution attached by Board of Supervisors
of Los Angeles County, declaring Slauson Avenue within the City of Vernon an
Boyle Avenue and portions of intersecting streets,also within City of
Vernon, no longar a part of the County System of HighwaY$, .was read.
It was moved by f;oxon,seconded by Trowbridge that matter be laid
over until next meeting and. referred to City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from California Cotton Oil Corp. requesting permit
to~erate feed yard for feeding livestock at 2604 Downey Road,was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta that the communica
1;ton be filed and request granted. Motion carried.
Communication from E!.B.S.~teel and Forge, requesting permit to
conduct steel warehouse and steel storage business at 3341 E. Slauson
Avenue, was read.
It was mo ved by Poxon, .. seconded by Peralta that the communication 29
,be filed and request granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Los Angeles By-Products Co., inquiring as to
status of application for permit to operate a public dump (Metropolitan Dump'
on east side of Alameda Street, between 25th and 37th Streets, (1-4-44 applica-
tion referred to. Police Department for report,) was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communica-
tion be filed and referred to the City Engineer for report. Motion carried.
Communication from Victory Packing Company, 3317 E. 4tith Street,
(County) requesting permission to drain corrals into storm sewer on Downey
Road,. was read..
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Peralta, that the communication
be filed and permit denied. Motion carried.
Communication from Los Angeles Police Department.togetherwlth
copy of letter from F. F. Miller, Traffic Manager of the California Milling'
Co. regarding tr~ffic control at intersection of 55th street and Alameda
Street, was read.

Commun1cation.from Axelson Manufacturing Co. requesting traffic
lane at intersection of Randolph Street and Boyle Avenue, ~lso red curb at
above location, was read. .
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta that the communica-
tion be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
.Communica tion from Worthington Pump and Machinery Corporation, re-
questing curb painting at 5075 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. .
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta .that the communica-
tion be filed and referred to the Police Department. Mot~n carried.
Communication- from Weyler Transportation Co. inc., requesting
permit to conduct a truck repair and truck sales business at 1938 East Vernon
Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that the co.mmunica-'
tion be filed and request granted. Mbtion carried.
Communication fr~ Cherman Furniture Manufacturing Co. requesting
permit to haul refuse €rom their premises at 5607 Santa Fe Avenue upon and
along the streets of the City of Vernon, was read.

It was moved by Peralta, seconded b7t Trowbridge that the report be
filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Richard Levy submitting resignation as a member
of the City 90uncil, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta that the communi3 a-
tion be filed and resignation accepted. Motion carried.
Report of the Committee on Light, Power, Water, Street, Build-
ing and Purchasing was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge that the Report
be filed. Motion Carried.
RESOLUTION No. 1248, a resolution extending time for Layn~ & Bowler
to furnish deep well pump, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta that the ReSOlution
No. 1248, be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1249, a resolution accepting deep well tu~bine pump
i'rom Layne & Bowler Corporation was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta that Resolution
No. 1249 be adopted. Motion carried.
