19440620 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes . MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON~ HELD ON JUNE 20th, 1944, AT 3:00 o'CLOCKP. M. AT THE OFFICE OF TEE CITY COUNCIL. CITY HALL, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Iessrs. Leonie, Peralta, Trowbridge and Matll:tard COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Poxon The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Mailliard that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. Communication and report of the City Engineer on communication from H. Levine Cooper~ge Co., regarding Bickett Street, was read. It was .moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta that the communica- tion be filed and remommendation concurred, subject to further study by the City Engineer. Motion carried. Communication by the City Engineer, together with memorandum.of agreement between City of Verno~ and the State Department of Public Works providing for accumulation of 1/4 cent gas tax funds, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and recommendation accepted. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer, requesting authority to offer settlement of the financing of F.W.A. water system improvement to the Federal Works Agency representatives, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communica- tion be filed and request complied with. Motion carried. Communication from Carl A~ Heinze, Consulting Engineer, regarding request of Swift & Company to Southern California Edison Co. to attach their lines on a contact rental basis to Vernon City Poles located on Swift & Com- pany property, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Peralta, that the communica- tion be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communication from Rodgers Engineering Co., requesting permission to operate a patter shop at 2149 E. 37th Street, was read. Itwas moved by Peralta, seconded by Mailliard that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Ben Lilien (Los Angeles Meat Co.) requesting a per- mit to sell and distribute meat products at 3315 E. Vernon Ave., was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communica- tion be filed apd permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Chematerial Company requesting a permit and license to conduct a business as manufacturers agent~ soap powders at 2124 E. 51st St., was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta~ that the communica- tion be filed and permit and license granted. Motion. carried. CommunicQ1;ion from Baker Oil Tool Company requesting curb painting at 6000 So. Boyle Avenue, was read. 330 1. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the communi- cation be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Tide Water Association Oil Company requesting curb painting at 2406 East 28th Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Air Reduction Sales Company, regarding fire pro- tection for their oxygen plant located in county strip at 2423 East 58th Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communica- tion be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Jacob P. Harper regarding a citation for motor vehicle violation, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta that the communica- tion be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from B. C. Spencer requesting the use of old City Hall for purpose of operating a grinding business, was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communica- tionbe filed. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the report be filed. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 1254, a resolution authorizing the Mayor and the City Clerk to sign for and on behalf of the City a license to cross the Santa E'e Railway Company right-of-way with an electric supply line, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that Resolution No. 1254, be adopted. Motion carried. Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Purchasing and Library, was read.
