It was moved oy Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the com-
munication be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer in regard to request of Rob-
ertson Outdoor Advertising 'Company for permission tOPlace adv,ertlsing
benches in parkways, with the recommendation of the City Engtneerthat-the
request be denied, was'read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the
communication be filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer b,
complied with. Motion carried.
Communication from the City 4lgineer in resard to the condition
of the galvanized-iron roofs of the garage buildings, togetb:er with the reo;"
ommenaation of the City Engineer that the City accept the offer of the A-I'
Paint Shop to cover the roofs with an asphalt base coating tor the sum ot
$790.00, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon, that the COmmunica-
tion be filed and the matter referred to the City Engineer~ Motion carried.

Communica.tion from the City Engineer submitting lease agreement
signed by Peter Strattes for use of City Water Department property for !
farming purposes at Fruitland Road and Downey RQad for year beginning April
7, 1945 at rental of $250.00, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliar4, that the com-
munication'be filed and the a.greement accepted. Motion carried.
Communication and report of Carl A. Heinze, consulting Electrical
Engineer on Franchise Report submitted by the Southern California ~ison
Company for operations under Franchise Ordinances 503 and 504, referred to
the Consulting Engineer on March 20, 1945, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.

Report of Carl A. Heinze, Consulting electriaal Engineer on oper-
ation of electric system by Southern California Edison Company for month
of February, 1945, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the re-
port be filed. Motion carried.
Report of F. H.Donnelly, Fire Chief on request of Bowes
Pacific Company for permit to operate warehouse at 4820 Loma Vista Avenue,
with report that the business will consist of wholesaling automobile access-
ories and recommendation that a permit be granted, was read.
It!was moved by Peralta, seconded by Mailliard, that the report
be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Barker Grinding Company requesting permIt ,to
conduct a business of centerless grinding, cylindrical, internal and thread
grinding, together with report of the Fire Chief that he has made an in-
spection of the plant in Los Angalesandms found no objection to this type ~
business and reconnnendation that permit be granted, were read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Peralta, that the commu-
nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. ~
Communication from E. Thornfield requesting a permit to operate'
a branch office of Thinfield'a Jewelry at 4236 Produce Plaza, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu-
nica~o~ be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.

Communication from Machiner~ Sales Co. regarding traffic condi-
tions at 38th & Alameda Streets, and Vernon Avenue and Alameda Street, was
read.
It was mov,sd by poxon, seconded by peralta, that the communica-
tion be filed and the1 matter referred to the (.;ity Clerk for Reply.
Motion carried.
, Communication from Western Moulded Products, inc., commending the
Fire Departmenton the efficient manner in which fire was handled at their
plant at 32ll ~ast 26th Street, was read. '

Communica,tion from Griffin Wheel Company requesting curb paint-

Communications from the following firms requesting permits to
haul refuse upon and along the streets of the City of Vernon:- H. L. Harvill
Mfg. Co., Angelus Steel Treating Co., and Vernon Kilns, were read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Peralta, that the communica-
tions be filed and per.mlts granted. Motion carried.'
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that the repo~t
be filed. Motion carried.
Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, BUilding, Purchas-
ing and Library, was read.
It was movedhy Peralta, seCOnded by Trowbridge, that the r,port
be filed. Motion carried.
Copy of letter sent to A. M. Castle Co. by the City-Clerk in
connection with traffic conditions at Alameda and 57th StrElt,~tal .~o-
gether with the recommendation that this :matter be referred;to.,the ~ity
,Engineer, was read.
It was moved by)'Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that the copy o~
letter be filed and the matter referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried:
ORDINANCE NO. 579, an ordinance regulating the establishment and
maintenance of automobile camps and automobile trailer camps, was read for
first reading.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge, that ordinance
No. 579 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.)
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that the City
Attorney be authorized and instructed to employ any addit~oounsel
which he may deem neoessary for the proper and complete defense to the
charge mad.e against the Vernon City Police, and that whoever is the
attorney, that a reasonable compehsation will be paid for services rendered,
by the City. Motion. carried. '
