MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEET ING OF TEE. CITY
COUNCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON. HELD ON TUESDAY
July 3 1945 AT 3:00 O'CLOCK P.M. IN THE OFFICE
OF THE' CITY HAY., 4305. SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON.
COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Peralta, Paxon, Trowbridge and Mailliard

The City Clerk called the meeting to order and requested that
! Mayor pro tempore be elected.
It was moved by Mailliardl seconded by Peralta, that Mr. Poxon
act as Mayor Pro Tempore of the meeting. Motion carried.
Mr. Poxon then called the meeting to order.
It was moved by Peralta, aeconded by Mailliard, that the m.nutes
of the previous meeting 1;>e approved. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 585, a.n ordinance granting a pipe line franchise to
the Union Oil Co~any, was read for second reading. .
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Ma111iard, that Ordinance
No. 585 be passed tor second reading. Motion carried.

Report and decision from Railr.oad <CoJl11Dia,ion authorizing the Union
Pacific Railroad Co. to construct spur track across Boyle Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mtilliard, that the report
be accepted, subjected to the approval of the City ngineer. Motion carr1ed.
Communication from Los Angeles County Board of SuperVisors together
with Resolution authorizing additional appropriation of $470.73 for improve-
ment of Vernon-Downey ROB d, was read. .
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by TrOWbridge, that the communi-
cation be filed. Motion carried.
Report of the Fire Chief on application of J. H. Buffington for
permit to operate toy manufacturing business at 2113 E. 37th Street, together
with his recommendation that permit be granted, was read.
It was moved by TrOwbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the report
be accepted and permit granted. Motion carrIed.
Communication from Kerotest Manufacturing Co. requesting permit to
warehouse and repair valves at 3311 East Slauson Avenue, \f.8 read-;,

Communication from Geo.rge Lasater requesting permit to operate
Richfield Service Station (formerly operated by Vic Curry) at 2530 Santa Fe
Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by M~illiard, that the communi-
cation be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from See's Rubber Company re~uesting permit to conduct
a mechanical molded rubber business at 2288 E. 48th t. was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbrige that the communica-
tion be filed and the matter referred to the Fire Chief. Motion ca~ried.
Communicat1.on from Albert Klein requesting permit to conddct an auto-
mobile repair business at 4300 S. Soto Street, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that thecommu-
nication be filed and permit grant~d. Motion carried.
Communication from Quality Casing Co. requesting permit 'to opera~e
w wholesale paper 'fobbing business which will be known as Kalof &: Company
at 3650 So. Soto street, was read,

tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from M. E.Gray Company req\lesting permit to operate I;
pipe valve and fitting business at 2011 E. Vernon Ave., was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communi-
cation be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communicat.:!.on from Western Chemical &: Mfg. Co. requesting permit
for compounding industrial chemicals for cleansers at 3270 E. Washington Blvd~,
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge~ seconded by Mailliard that the communica-
tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication 'from McCullough Tool. Company requesting temporary 'per-
mit to construct fence across First Street, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communi-
cation be filed and permit denied. Motion carried.
Communication from Columbia Steel Company stating that they do not
object to the fencing of First Street, providing that the fence is removed
upon due notice, was read.

cation be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Almquist Bros. and Viets requesting curb paint-
ing at 2300 E. 4.9th Street, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communi-
cation be filed and the matter referred to the Police DepartlJlent. Motion
carried.
Communication from Warman Steel Casting Co., acknowledging letter
in regards to traffic conditions, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, s econd-ed by Peralta, that the eommuni-
cation be filed and the matter referred to Police Depart1J1ent. Motion carried.

Communication from Allis-Chalmers Mfg. Co. requesting permit to
haul refuse from premises of 4440 E. 49th Street, along the streets of the
City of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communica-
tion be filed and permit granted. M9tion carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be
filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Southern California Edison ~Edison Op.,
together with check in the sum of $49,862.62 representing 2~ of gross.receipta
for year ending May 29, 1945, together with communication by C. A. Heinze,
consulting engineer attached, were read, with the approval of C. A. Heinze.
It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communi-
cation be filed and check accepted. Motion carried.
Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Purchasing
and Library,. was read. .
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the report
be filed. . Motion carried.
