IN THE OFFICE OF THE' CITY HAY., 4305. SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON. COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Peralta, Paxon, Trowbridge and Mailliard COUNC:h.MEN ABSENT: Leonis The City Clerk called the meeting to order and requested that ! Mayor pro tempore be elected. It was moved by Mailliardl seconded by Peralta, that Mr. Poxon act as Mayor Pro Tempore of the meeting. Motion carried. Mr. Poxon then called the meeting to order. It was moved by Peralta, aeconded by Mailliard, that the m.nutes of the previous meeting 1;>e approved. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 585, a.n ordinance granting a pipe line franchise to the Union Oil Co~any, was read for second reading. . It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Ma111iard, that Ordinance No. 585 be passed tor second reading. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mtilliard, that the report be accepted, subjected to the approval of the City ngineer. Motion carr1ed. Communication from Los Angeles County Board of SuperVisors together with Resolution authorizing additional appropriation of $470.73 for improve- ment of Vernon-Downey ROB d, was read. . It was moved by Peralta, seconded by TrOWbridge, that the communi- cation be filed. Motion carried. Report of the Fire Chief on application of J. H. Buffington for permit to operate toy manufacturing business at 2113 E. 37th Street, together with his recommendation that permit be granted, was read. It was moved by TrOwbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the report be accepted and permit granted. Motion carrIed. Company requesting temporary 'per- mit to construct fence across First Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communi- cation be filed and permit denied. Communication from Columbia Steel Company stating that they do not object to the fencing of First Street, providing that the fence is removed upon due notice, was read. - It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communi- cation be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Almquist Bros. and Viets requesting curb paint- ing at 2300 E. 4.9th Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communi- cation be filed and the matter referred to the Police DepartlJlent. Motion carried. Communication from Warman Steel Casting Co., acknowledging letter in regards to traffic conditions, was read. Co. requesting permit to haul refuse from premises of 4440 E. 49th Street, along the streets of the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the communica- tion be filed and permit granted. M9tion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Southern California Edison ~Edison Op., together with check in the sum of $49,862.62 representing 2~ of gross.receipta for year ending May 29, 1945, together with communication by C. A. Heinze, consulting engineer attached, were read, with the approval of C. A. Heinze. It was moved by Peralta, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communi- cation be filed and check accepted. Motion carried. Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Purchasing and Library,. was read. . It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Peralta, that the report be filed. .
