CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD ON AUGUST 28th, 1945 IN THE OFFICE
OF THE CITY COUNCIL at 3:00 0 'clock P. M.
IN THE CITY ULL, 4305 Santa Fe Avenue.
COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Leonis, Poxon. Trowbridge and Mailliard
COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Peralta (Deceased)
The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.
It was moved by Poxon~;;jJe,conded by Trowbridge, that the
reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be paid over until
the next regular meeting of the City Council. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE No. 588, an ordinance declaring intention to
close up, vacate and abandon a portion of Irving Street and the first
alley west of Santa Fe Avenue, north of 37th Street and repealing
Ordinance No. 587, was read for second reading.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that Ordinance
No. 588 be passed for second reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 588, an ordinance declaring Intention to

Ordinance No. 587, was read for third and final reading.

ORDINANCE No. 589, an ordinance fixing the rate for fiscal
year 1945-1946 for taxes, was read for second reading.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that Ordinance
No. 589, be passed for second reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 589, an ordinance fixing the tax rate for the
fiscal year 1945-l946 , was read for third and final reading.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that Ordinance
No. 589, be adopted. Motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: Poxon, Mailliard, Trowbridge and Leonis

Communication from California Walnut Growers Association request-
ing permit to erect a temporary labor camp on property located at 2700
Fruitland Road for period ending in January, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
