19450918 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes I ' MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1945 at 3:00 O'CLOCK P. M. IN THE OFFIC E OF THE CITY C OUNe IL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE. COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Leonis, Poxon, Trowbridge, Mail1iard and Anderson C OUNC ILMEN ABSENT: None The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon, that the minutes of the pre.ious meeting be approved. Motion carried. At this time the City Clerk informed the Board that there were no written or oral protests filed in his office on the vacation and abandomment of portion 0 f Irving Street and the alley north of 37th Street, and the testimony of the City Engineer was referred to; thereupon Councilman Trowbridge introduced Resolution No. 1278, and moved its adoption; motion seconded by Mail1iard and unanious1y carriecl. RESOLUTION No. 1279, A resolution authorizing the employ- ment of JanJ,es.l:f..,Johnston as Appraiser in the condemnation proceedings, as set forth in Resolution No. 1271, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that Reso- lution No. 1279, be adopted. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 591, an ordinance cfix!Jig, the time and place of meeting of the City Council of the City of Vernon, and fixing the three most public places in said city, was read for first reading. It was moved by poxon, seconded by Mail1iard, that Ordinance No. 591, we passed for first reading. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer requesting approval of employment of Mr. Emery F. Kennedy, Jr. as electricial for maintenance of traffic signals at rate of $2.00 per hour, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the com- munication be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Gasoline Pump Manufacturers Association requesting the City to revoke or nullify the regulation requiring a devise known as a Ga80- line Hose Control to be attached to all current installations of gasoline pumps, wa s read. . It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mail1iard,that the communication be filed and the matter referred to the Fire Department. Motion carried. Communication from Charles B. Paber requesting a permit and license t.o operate a die and stamping shop at 5001 Pacittic Blvd. was read. It was moved by Mail1iard seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Ciecu1ar letter from Reconstruction Finance Corporation, Surplus Property Division, submitting a statement of needsof State or Local Govern- ment, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the letter be filed. Motion carried. Communication from E. J. Stanton & Son. requesting curb paint- ing at 2030 East 38th Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the 93 1. communication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Fibreboard Products, inc. requesting permit to haul refuse from premises at 3720 So. Soto Street and 4444 Pacific Blvd., along the streets of the city of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed end permit granted. Motion carried. Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on Dperation of electric system by ~outhern California Edisoh Company of July, 1945, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the re- port be filed. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the report be approved and filed. Motion carried. Report of the Committee on street Maintenance, Building, Pur- chasing and Library, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon, that the re- port be approved and filed. Motion carried.
