IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AT 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Messrs. Leonis, Anderson, Poxon and Trowbridge C OUNC ILMEN ABSENT: Mailliard The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer, on request of City of Bell contemplated extension of municipal bus line into City of Vernon The City Engineer reports that the City of Bell Municipal Bus operating on private streets in the Central Manufacturing dis- remommends that the communications be filed. regarding was read. Communication from the Fire Chief requesting authority to re- instate Mr. M. L. Ward to his former 'position in the fire Department, was read. Mr. Ward has been discharged from the iDmed services and wishes to resume his position with the Fire Department. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nicationbe filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communication from the Fire Chief requesting authority to rein- state Mr. J. L. Hardin to his former position in the Fire Department was read. Mr. l-.ardin has been discharged from the armed ser~es and wishes to resume his position with the Fire Department. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communication from the Fire Chief submitting vacation list for the fire department was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon, that the commu- nication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Vernon Industrial Development Association, to- gether with communication from Stanley W. Guthrie, attorney for the Asso- ciation in regard to the change-over from 50 to 60 cycle energy by the Southern California Eclison Co, together with proposed copy of resolution in regard to change-over, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nicat'ion. be approved and filed. Motion carried. Communication from Bethlehem Steel Corp. in regard to the proposed expansion of their plant, and in preparing the layout drawings for this project, assume that after Randolph Street ia improved, their pr~perty line will be 40 ft. north of the Pacific Electric right-of-way, was read. Communication from Union Pacific Company regarding the location of Aath Packing Company at the northwestcorner of Downey Road and Leonis Blvd.. was read. Pelligrino requ~sting permit to oper- ate an aluminum and brass foundry at 2057 East 37th titreet, was read. Motion carried. Communication from Owens-Illinois Glass Co. requesting curb painting on Fruitland Road, south of plant premises, was read. Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Purchas- ing and Library was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, requesting authority to reinstate Mr. William I. Hudson, as pumping plant operator at rate of $215.00, was read. Mr. Hudson has been discharged from the armed services and will fill the vacancy caused by resignation of Mr. Louis M. Schilder. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the communica- tion be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communication from Bl1xton, Inc. requesting permit to conduct a business of manufacturing and selling commercial refrigerators at 1960 East 48th Street, WQS read. . It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer on operation of Electric System for the month of December, 1945 by the Southern Calif- ornia Edison Co. .as read.. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the City Council determine at the next general municipal election to be held April 9, 1946 that the polls at said election shall be open between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM and the Clerk be instructed to set forth said hours in his notice of election.
