19460716 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEET INB' OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD ON JULY 1~, 1946 at 2;00 P. M. in The Office of the City Council 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE. VERNON COt~CILMEN PRESENT: Leonis, Trowbridge, Poxon and Anderson COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Mailliard The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that :the minutes of the pre~ious meeting be approved. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer, requesting authority to employ Paul E. Trejo as chainman at monthly rate of $175.00 per month, to replace Mr. Christie who has left the city's service, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the com- munication be filed and request granted. Carried. Communication from the City Engineer advising that Mr. P. B. McKiernan was inadvertently omitted from the salary resolution No. 1301, and recommending that he be included in the Engineering Department salary list at the rate of $175.00 per month, was read. It was moved by Poxon seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and the City Attorney be instructed to draw a resolution to correct this omission. Motion carried.. Communication from the City Engineer, advising that the sale of scrap metal authorized by the City Council on June 4, 1946, was sold to Berg Metals Corp. for the sum of $124.68 (318 pounds copper - 31.01) (1168 lbs. mixed brass - 90.64) (60 lbs. scrap aluminum-3.03), was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and check accepted. -Motion carried. Communication from Carl A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, submitting overhead crossing agreement obtained from Santa Fe Railway Co. by the Southern Calif. Edison Co. to cross tracks on East 26th Street, was read. Mr. Heinze advis.esnthat the agreement has been checked, and recommends that the City Council authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the agreement. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the agreement be executed by the Mayor and-the City Clerk, having been approved by the City Attorney. Motion carried. Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operation of electrical system of the Southern California EdisonCo. for the month of Ma~, 1946, was read. It was moved b.y Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication and copy of complaint filed with Railroad Commiss- ion against City of Vernon, City of Los Angeles, Pacific Electric Railway Co. and Southern Pacific Company by the Pacific Freight lines regarding traffic conjestion on Alameda Street, was read. 2i8 It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the communi- cation be filed and the matter referred th the City Engineer, City Attor- ney and E. Communication from Agency Composition Service requesting permit to conduct the business of type setting and making proofs for photo engraver at 4555 Produce Plaza, was read. !t was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- niaation be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from K-C Products Company requesting permit to conduct the business of manufacturing and distributing closet, bathroom and kitchen accessories at 3103 East 26th Street, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson, that the communi- cation be filed and the matter ~aid over until the hext meeting. Motion carried. Communication from Henry H. Rice, requesting permit to conduct an unpholstering shop at 5875 So. Boyle Avenue, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Fire Chief. Motion carried. Communication from Industrial Electric Service, requesting permit to conduct an electrical maintenance business at 3165 E. Slauson Avenue, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Paul Blackman, requesting permit to conduct a meat packing business to be known as Coronet Packing Company at 3290 E. Vernon Ave.~ was read. A check for $25.00 WaS submitted for killing permit. . It was moved by Anderson, seQonded by poxon, that the communi- cation be filed and the matter referred to the Fire Chief. Motion carried. Communication from Bob Jame~ requesting permit to operate an auto repair shop at 3301 East Vernon avenue was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by poxon, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Gareno De Julio requesting permit and license to sell ~unches within the city, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and the patter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Arthur A. Dickson, requesting permit and licena to sell ice cream within the City, was read. It was moved by Trownridge, seconded by Anderson that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. . Communication from United States Steel Products Co., requesting a cross-walk across Santa Fe Avenue at 51st Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. RESOLUTION No. 1302, a Resolution fixing the compensation of the City ,Attorney as of July 1, 1946, was read. . It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that Resolution No. 1302 be adopted.
