19460917 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING pF THE CITY C OUNC IL OF THE CITY OF VERNON, HELD ON SEP-rEMBER 17, 1946 AT 2:00 P. M. IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL, 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE. VERNON C OUNC ILMEN PRESENT: COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Leonis, Trowbridge, Anderson, Poxon and Maillliard None The meeting was calle d to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. I~ was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. Communication from Feedstuffs Processing Co. requesting permit for the manufacture of vitamin supplements known as "Calbrew" on property of Acme Brewing Co. now occupied by Globe Milling Co. on East 51st St., was read. (This was laid over from September 3, 1946 meeting.) It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the City Attorney for permit relative to correcting any nuisance. Motion carried. Communication and ;r>eport of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief on request of James Bertino for permit to operate tire repair shop at 2004 East Vernon Avenue, was read. The Fire Chief recommends that the permit be granted. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson, that the communica- tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Vernon Industria+ Development Association, requesting information as to action taken by City Council on communication and resolution dated November 2, 194~, in regard to railroad drill t rack in East 46th Street and across Pacific blvd. was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by poxon, that the communica- tion be filed and the matter referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried. Communiation from Aluminum Go~pany of America requesting consid- eration in the changing of the name in Alcoa Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon, that ~he communica- tion be filed and the matter referred to the Committee of the Whole. Motion carried. Communication from Avalon Van & Storage Co. requesting permit to carryon a business of general warehousing at 2223 East 37th Street, was read. It was moved by poxon, seconded by Mailliard, that the communica- tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Ace Screw PDoducts Co. requesting permit to manufacture various automatic screw machine products at 5001 Pacific Blvd., was read. Communication from Walworth Company, Inc. requesting curb painting at 2532 E. 49th Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by poxon, that the communica- tion be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Production Pattern & Mfg. Co. requesting curb painting at 3165 East Slauson Avenue, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Poxon, that the communica- tion be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Communication from Standard Auto Body, Inc., requewting permit to haul refuse from premises of 4900 So. Soto Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Motion carried. Communication from the City ~gineer requesting that the salary of Paul B. McKiernan be increased from i175.00 per month to $200.00 per month and classification be changed from chainman to Junior Draftsman effective September 16, 1946, was read. It was moved by poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communi- cation be filed and .request granted. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the report be filed. Motion carried.
