B. Leonis. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carr~ed. Application from Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Co. to construct, maintain and operate a spur track across 46th street and SevIlle Avenue, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the application be filed. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer, submitting report of Edward R. Bowen, Consulting Engineer, qn Filtrol Corp. wast disposal, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the communication be filed. Motion carried. gommunication from the City Engineer, submitting specification No. 141 providing for the drilling of two wells, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from the City, Engineer, recommending that G. Ashby be raised from $7.00 per day to $8.00 ~er day - A. Romero be raised from $6.00 per day to $7.00 per day - M. H. Torres be raised from $6.00 per day to $7.00 per day, effective November 1, 1946, all being employees of the Street and Water Department, was read. , It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed. Motion carried. Communication and report of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief, on request of Craig Welding Co. for permit to conduct a welding supply bus- iness at 5670 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. The Fire Chief recommends that permit be granted. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Maill~ard, that the com- munication be filed and permit granted. Motion car~ied. Communication from F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief, on request of Paul A. Palmer for permit to conduct an engine sales and service business at 5408 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. The Fire Chief recommends that the permit be granted. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. 1. 264 Communication from F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief, requesting authority to selm two 15 ft. sections of 6 inch hard suction hose and fittings to Morrison and Knudson, contractors, at the price of $119.55, was read. (These secions were purchased during the war at the price of $119.55 for use with O.C.D. pumper for which there is not any further use.) , It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the communication be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communication from Owens Illinois Glass Co. requesting permit to increase above ground oil storage to provde for,,&tQtal storage of 220,000 gallos for a 10 day supply at 5120 So. Soto St. was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the communication be filed and the matter referred to the Fire Department for a report. Motion carried. Communication from Dr. Harry F. Becker, Health Officer, sub- mitting resignation as health officer to be effective November 1, 1946, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the communication be filed and the resignation be accepted. Motion carried. Franchise report .from So. Calif. Gas Co. on Los Angeles County. Franchise No. 463 and 467 together with a check in the sum of 90~ for period of January 1, '1946 to June, 30, 1946, was read~ It was moved by AJaders,on, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and the matter referred to the Finance Committee. Eatherly (Verhon Fireman) submitting application for rental of municipal house at 4323 Furlong Place, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seonded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed. Motion carried. Report of Carl A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operations of electrical system by the Southern California Edison C . for month of Sept- ember, 1946 was read. n It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Conveyor Company requesting that south side of Slauson Avenue be cleaned of dirt and debris, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and the matter referred tothe City Engineer'" Motion carried. Communication from California Steel & Construction Co. requesting refund of building fee for buildings to have been built for the Progressive Body Works now cahcelled, was read. ($61.00). It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the City Attorpey. Motion carried. Communication from Royal Rubber & Mfg. Co. 3461.E. 26th St., requesting permit to store additioD,fl scrap automobile tires on property of old steel company in East 26th Street, was read. 4- It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that thecommu- nication be filed and the matter referred t9 the Fire' Chief and City At- torney. Motion carried. Communication from Los Angeles Equipment Co. requesting a permit for the conductiong of a business of selling industrial and construc~ion machinery at 2100 E. 25th Streeet, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- h~cation be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department for re- port. Motion carried. Communication from J. E. Winney requesting permit to conduct a sales organization to be known as Sterling-Dockson Co. at 5900 So. Boyle Avenue (Kinney Aluminum Co.), was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the police Department. Motion carried. Communiaation from Wilson Paper Co. to conduct a wholesale job- bing business at 4200 So. Alameda Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Report of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief and T. V. Cassidy, City Attorney on bid received for the purchase of Fire Department Equipment, was read.. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard" that the report be filed and that the bid be awarded to Mack International Motor Truck Corporation. Motion filed. RESOLUTION No. 1321, a Resolution approving Specification No. 141 for' the drilling of water wells, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that Resolu- tion No. 1321 be adopted and that the Clerk be ordered to advertise for bids. Motion carried. RESOLUTION No. 1322, a Resolution declaring wage rates to be used in the drilling of water'wells under Specifications No. 141, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that Resolution No. 1322 be adopted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION No. 1323, a Resolution awarding contract for the furnishing and delivery of one motor truck chassis and appurtenances under Specifications No. l32b was read. .' , It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that Resol~tion No. 1323 be adopted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION No. 1324, a Resolution authorizing the expenditure of public money by a,4/5th1s vote, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that Resolution No. 1324 be adopted. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Anderson, Mailliard, Trowbridge and Leonis NOES: None ABSENT: Poxon ORDINANCE No. 598, an Ordinance of the City of Vernon to license for the purpose of revenue and regulation and providing for penalties for violation of said ordinance, was read for first reading. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that Ordinance No. 598, be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
